Google posts changelogs for Daydream and Daydream Keyboard v1.4

Google's Daydream VR has been available for a few months now, but there have only been a handful of updates. A new version of Daydream and the Daydream Keyboard started rolling out the other day, but as usual, Google didn't update the changelogs right away. Now, Google has been so gracious as to update said changelogs.

Weekend poll: Do you regularly use VR?

2017 is supposed to be the year of VR. (Or was it 2016?) As such, I'm curious how many of you are doing your virtual duty to the tech trend overlords and engaging with this content. Mobile VR headsets are all the rage right now, with players coming out of the woodwork all over the place in an effort to get in on the ground floor of the VR revolution.

Except, I'm curious if you, bleeding-edge tech enthusiasts, actually even care about or use VR (or, have used it more than a handful of times after relegating your headset to an indefinite residence in the closet).

SkyVR is now available for Daydream headsets

This isn't Sky's first foray into virtual reality. Previously, the British company had released Sky VR aimed at Cardboard headsets and now it's back with SkyVR for Google's newer and more capable Daydream platform. Was that confusing? Look for the space: Sky VR, space, versus SkyVR, no space. It's an important distinction.

Jokes about the name's reiteration, potential confusion, and lack of inventiveness aside, SkyVR is perfect for those who want to immerse themselves in certain experiences like driving an F1 car with Damon Hill or walking the red carpet with the Star Wars cast.

WWII-themed shooter Bandit Six comes to Google Daydream

There are now a handful of Google Daydream-compatible phones, but apps are still just trickling out. There's one today that might be of interest, though. Bandit Six, which was previously available on Cardboard, has come to Daydream. It's a shooter that places you in the tailgunner pod of WWII bomber.

Google Daydream hasn't done anything to fix VR's biggest problem - it's just not very good (opinion)

Today, I uninstalled the Daydream app from my Pixel XL, because I hadn't used it in nearly three months. When I reviewed the experience in November last year, I had the sneaking suspicion this is where I'd end up. Not because I felt Daydream was uniquely lacking in some way, or even that the sparse content ecosystem would quickly be depleted through my use. It's because the exact same thing has happened with every Samsung Gear VR I've been sent to evaluate over the years. And Gear VR's Oculus Store has tons of stuff - hundreds of experiences, games, 360-degree videos.

ZTE Axon 7 to get Android 7.0 Nougat and Daydream compatibility starting today

The ZTE Axon 7 was announced in May of last year with plenty of hyperboles over its BMW Designworks-inspired look, renowned pianist Lang Lang endorsement, and Dolby Atmos surround sound. In reality, the phone was very good, bar its software as Ryan discovered in his review. But ZTE has been issuing updates to improve some of the shortcomings, like the signal reception and the weird notification bell. Today, another update will start rolling to the Axon 7, though this one is a lot more major.

This is Android Nougat we're talking about, and with it come a host of changes like multi-window support, customizable quick settings tiles, plenty of new emojis, and more.

[Deal Alert] Daydream View headset price reduced to $49 in the Google Store until February 25th

Google's official VR headset for the Pixel and Pixel XL, the Daydream View, isn't absolutely necessary to enjoy the phones. But since owners have one of the only pieces of hardware on the planet currently compatible with the Daydream platform, it would be a shame to let the opportunity to check it out pass by. Google agrees... or at the very least, they have an overabundance of stock since the initial freebie preorders ran out. At the moment the headset is $30 off on the Google Store.

Need for Speed VR for Google Daydream is now live

Google trotted out a number of new Daydream titles the other day, one of which was supposed to be Need for Speed VR. However, the actual release of the game lagged behind all the others. Now, it's available, and the price is a little lower than what Google originally quoted. It's not cheap, but for $15 it's probably the most ambitious Daydream game yet.
