This phone has a full-screen fingerprint scanner, no USB port, and is made entirely of glass

A phone with no charging port, no speaker grilles, and made completely of glass probably sounds a bit like satire from The Onion, but I can assure that’s exactly what Chinese smartphone maker Vivo showed us this week with its new - and fully functional - Apex 2019 concept phone.

The Apex is covered entirely in glass: the back, sides, and front are all smoothly polished, giving the phone an oddly smooth and almost stone-like quality. Vivo had to come up with an entirely new way to process glass in order to create the variable thickness and curvature required for the shape of a smartphone, and there’s no doubt that the result is impressive - it looks like no other smartphone I’ve ever seen.

Vivo reveals new iQOO phone for gamers in China, may come to other markets

Two days ago, Vivo revealed a new gaming-focused flagship phone for the Chinese market called the iQQO. On paper, it looks like a 2019-era version of the now-typical Chinese gaming phone, but Vivo did manage to pack in some decidedly top-tier hardware like a Snapdragon 855, in-display fingerprint sensor, and high-end camera sensor for a such a low ~$450 starting price. Best of all, it may end up coming to other markets.

Vivo has a new phone with a pop-up selfie cam, and it's headed for India

Vivo's been teasing the concept of a pop-up selfie camera since last MWC, but outside the Nex S, which landed in China last year, the technology has been sadly lacking in consumer devices. Today that changes, but only a little: Vivo has just formally announced the V15 Pro, bringing the pop-up camera to another consumer phone, but this time in India.

Vivo's new concept phone doesn't have a screen notch or a front-facing camera because who needs selfies

Today Vivo has revealed a new concept phone in the vein of yesterday's Meizu. The device, which only seems to go by the unimaginative name "APEX 2019 Concept Smartphone," isn't only Vivo's first 5G smartphone, it also eschews most modern design sensibilities. The APEX 2019 has "no openings, seams, or bezels," no front-facing camera, a proprietary magnetic power/data connector, and an in-display fingerprint sensor which covers nearly the entire screen.

JerryRigEverything's Vivo Nex S clear back conversion puts the pop-up camera's mechanism on display

The Vivo Nex S is no doubt one of the most interesting phones of 2018. Its massive 6.6" OLED screen may only be 1080p, but it's hiding an in-display fingerprint sensor and a fancy pop-up camera underneath that. JerryRigEverything already checked out the Nex S's durability in a previous video, but this time around, he does a clear back conversion and exposes the pop-up camera mechanism.

JerryRigEverything heaps abuse on the Vivo Nex S, and the pop-up camera survives

Odds are you won't have the chance to buy a Vivo Nex S. The company is only selling the phone in China despite the really neat pop-up camera. You can at least see how durable it is thanks to the latest JerryRigEverything video. It turns out, surprisingly durable.

Vivo announces the all-screen Nex with a popup selfie camera, but it's only for China

Vivo wowed us at Mobile World Congress this year with its almost bezel-free Apex concept phone. Unlike so many other 2018 smartphones, this one had a screen that got all the way up to the edge without a notch. Now, the concept phone is a real device called the Vivo Nex. Try to control your lust, though. This phone is only launching in China.
