Linux on DeX, announced at a developer conference last year, is a program that lets you run Linux (Ubuntu, in this case) on your Samsung smartphone or tablet, turning it into a full-fledged computer. Initially, it only worked on the Galaxy Note 9 and Tab S4, but with today's update, both Galaxy S9 and S10 families are now supported (along with, for some reason, the mid-range Tab S5e). Read More
Augmented Reality can serve many purposes: It can help you find your way easily or immerse yourself in Harry Potter's world. Another use for AR is to measure objects around you by simply pointing your phone at them. Google has already developed an AR-based ruler app, which needs to detect flat surfaces to estimate their size. While the concept is appealing, the software is approximate and often fails to identify objects you want to measure. As usual, Samsung wanted to build its own application, which seems to be more accurate than Google's. This makes sense, though, as the Korean company's app uses a time of flight sensor for its calculations. Read More
Google wowed everyone when it unveiled Night Sight photos alongside the Pixel 3. Many OEMs have since tried to replicate Google's witchcraft, but none have been able to match it. Samsung is the latest to try with an OTA on the Galaxy S10. You probably don't have the update yet, but it's coming. Read More
The Samsung Galaxy S10+ has been noted to have reception issues on several carriers. The problem seems to be worse on Sprint, where not only the S10+, but also the S10 and S10e are having problems with LTE. Software updates having failed to fix the problem, the carrier will now replace affected phones. Read More
With the Galaxy S10, Samsung aimed at designing a handset with a screen covering almost the entire front surface. While the final product is very close to achieving this goal, engineers had to get rid of superfluous elements to make the cutout as small as possible. As such, the LED indicator has been removed to make room for extra pixels, leaving many users frustrated and without a way to easily know they have notifications to look at. Sure, Always On Display can help alleviate this, but it's not as easy to see as a flashing light from afar.
We recently told you about Holey Light, a third-party app that puts an animated circle around the S10's cutout when you receive notifications. Read More
Some Sprint customers who own smartphones in the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S10 series are facing major cellular reception problems. There has been some progress in solving the woes of S10 owners, but for those with plagued S8 devices, the investigation is just beginning. Read More
Samsung has historically been a known quantity in the Android world: great hardware, good cameras, software you put up with. And while the Galaxy S10 family is largely what you've come to expect, there are highs and lows here that aren't necessarily in keeping with Samsung tradition. You can see our full reviews of the Galaxy S10+ and S10e for more in-depth analysis, but here are our five favorite and five least favorite things about the S10 line in a nutshell. Read More
The Galaxy S10 is an excellent phone, but it's not without its faults. In fact, one of the headlining features isn't so good. Samsung's ultrasonic in-display sensor is often slow and inaccurate, and it's attempting to address that with a new firmware patch rolling out to devices. It's unclear if the sensor is actually any better, but at least Samsung is trying. Read More
It's not uncommon for smartphone manufacturers to offer some sort of trade-in incentive for the brand-new model. Samsung's been doing it for several iterations now, as have Google and Apple. However, there seems to be an inherent logistical problem with these types of programs. There are always some trade-ins that are deemed ineligible, when, in actuality, they're perfectly compliant. That's what's happening to a bunch of Galaxy S10 buyers who took Samsung up on their trade-in deals.
If this story sounds familiar, it might be because we ran a similar one back in 2017 concerning the S8's trade-in program. It's unfortunate to see that Samsung and the third-parties that it works with haven't really changed their processes through the years, leading to countless customers being swindled out of the discounts they were promised.
