OxygenOS 5.1.2 for the OnePlus 5/5T brings gallery tweaks and some fixes, and downloads are available

OxygenOS 5.1.2 is out (well, it's been out for a couple of days) for the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T. It doesn't bring with it many new features, but the May 2018 security patch and quite a few fixes are in tow. The download, weighing in at a hefty 1.61GB, is out now.

New OnePlus Open Betas improve Switch, add Parallel Apps file management, and more

Yesterday, OnePlus pushed out new Open Betas for its 2016 and 2017 flagships. While mostly similar, the 3/3T version differs slightly from the 5/5T one. Both, however, improve the OnePlus Switch app and add the ability to manage Parallel Apps files in the File Manager.

OnePlus is good enough to provide a beta channel for its phones, so you can stay on the bleeding edge. You'll also probably encounter more bugs, but such is life. There are new Oreo-based Open Betas live today for OnePlus' recent phones. They include some functional updates as well as security patches.

After a brief one-month beta period, OnePlus has now begun rolling out the latest stable version of OxygenOS 5.1.0 to OnePlus 5 and 5T devices. The version is based on Android 8.1 Oreo and includes April's updated security patch.

If you didn't manage to grab one new from the OnePlus store, 3rd party resellers and used phones are now your only option.

OnePlus updating its 5 and 5T to play HD Netflix, but you have to send your phone back to get it

OnePlus' phones are a great value, but they've each individually had a few drawbacks. One negative they all had in common, though, was a DRM deficiency. None of the company's handsets supported the correct Widevine level required for HD playback in Netflix. Distress on the subject came to a head late last year, and OnePlus surprisingly announced that it would add the feature in the future. In a comment on OnePlus' forums today the company confirmed that it was now able to update handsets to support it, but the process will require that you physically send the phone back to OnePlus for the update.
