The budget phone space is certainly filling up with some spectacular options. From the extremely capable Honor 7X to the newly-released Moto G6, buyers strapped for cash have several great phones to choose from. But as much as those devices have impressed us in the last few months, HMD Global's Nokia 6.1 has surpassed all of my expectations for a sub-$300 phone. Read More
HMD Global has announced that the new Nokia 6.1 is available in the U.S. starting on May 6. Yes, you read that name correctly; instead of going with the more traditional "Nokia 6 2018" (as it was formerly known), HMD opted for the point release moniker. Despite this oddity, this phone packs a great value, coming at $269 for some nice specs. Read More
Nokia kicked off 2018 by announcing a revamped version of the Nokia 6, which is creatively called the Nokia 6 (2018). Last we heard, the new Nokia 6 was supposed to launch in the US this May, but there are listings up today on Amazon and Walmart for the US version of the phone. It can be yours for about $270. Nokia has been making a pretty substantial comeback in the past year or so. The company just announced four new phones at MWC, and it turns out they, along with all future Nokia phones, will be Android One devices. Despite the first-gen Nokia 6 making it stateside via retailers like Amazon and Best Buy, it was initially unclear whether any of the MWC-announced phones would. We now have confirmation from Juho Sarvikas, HMD's chief product officer. Read More
The Nokia phone brand has been on quite a journey since its heyday in the late nineties and early two-thousands (or aughts, as David would have me write it). After Nokia's smartphone business was sold to Microsoft and became the Windows Phone flagbearer while that was still a thing, the baton has now been passed to HMD Global. HMD has been releasing Android phones under the Nokia name for just over a year now, and it's fair to say the brand is stronger than it has been for a very long time.
At MWC 2018 here in Barcelona, HMD has added to its already burgeoning phone lineup with four devices, three of which are part of the Android One program and an ultra-low-cost Android Go phone. Read More
HMD Global had a good first year making Nokia-branded phones. In 2017, the Finnish company sold 70 million devices across its portfolio of six different Android smartphones and other low-cost feature phones such as the throwback Nokia 3310. HMD is confident of an even better 2018, starting with the launch of four new (well, mostly new) Android phones at MWC in Barcelona.
Before we even get to the new devices, perhaps the headline announcement is that starting with these phones all Nokia releases will be part of the Android One program (with the exception of its first Android Go phone). Read More
The 2018 refresh of the Nokia 6 was released in China earlier this month, but it strangely still ran Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box. The Nokia 7 was introduced in October, but like the new Nokia 6, it's only available in the Chinese market at the moment. Now both phones are receiving an update to Android 8.0 Oreo. Read More
After being leaked by a Chinese retailer just yesterday, the second generation Nokia 6 is now official. Thanks to a page on Nokia's China website, we can confirm a lot of the details we learned yesterday. The 2018 version is in many ways an iterative update, but it also makes some improvements, not least upgrading to a mid-range Snapdragon 630 chipset instead of the lower-end 430 that came with last year's model.
