Analytics may not be one of Google's most widely used apps, but it's an invaluable tool for administrators, website or app developers, bloggers, and anyone else who makes things using computers and the World Wide Web. The new version, 3.2, adds in a few improvements, namely landscape support and speed gains across the board. Read More
Sonos, the company most famous for having a logo that can be read the same way upside down, now supports SoundCloud Go. This announcement comes a few weeks after Plex's Sonos compatibility announcement. For people less interested in logos, Sonos is perhaps best known for its multi-room speakers that allow you to play the same song or different songs in each room of your house (provided that you can afford that many, of course). The latest post to the official Google Maps blog brings some welcome news. A couple of features that have been exclusive to betas of the Android app, not to mention hinted at by our cheeky teardown posts, are now in the public version. Specifically, that handy Wi-Fi-only mode for users on a limited data allotment should now be live for everyone (it was limited to a subset of users before), and the option to save local mapping data to the SD card is now active as well. TripIt is one of those apps that has been on Android for ages and has struggled to look not terrible pretty much the whole time. It's not going to make your eyes bleed these days, but the latest update does still have some questionable UI decisions. For example, that bottom navigation bar that is so clearly ripped right from the iOS app. Read More
Fast, smooth data download speed is kind of important to mobile video, especially now that even mid-range Android phones are rocking 1080p screens. That's part of the reason that Netflix created FAST.com, its own branded alternative to web speed tests like Ookla's SpeedTest.net, back in May. Inbox might be one of Google's most controversial products - some love the time-saving features and some hate them (such as our Glorious Leader, Artem). That's not going to stop the Inbox team from adding more productivity innovations though; new to Inbox this time is Trello, GitHub, and Google Alerts integration.
With Trello and GitHub integrations, it's pretty clear Google is angling at professionals like developers and designers with these additions. Both of them work like the other integrations, grouping and categorizing emails from the services into an easy to read list, which should reduce clutter in the inbox and improve readability. As any reddit user will know, there is no shortage of reddit apps on the Google Play Store. These apps might do the same things, but they all look and act differently. Relay for reddit, one of the more popular reddit clients, was updated to version 8 yesterday and includes a host of new changes. These changes are live on both the free and pro version. Read More
Pokémon GO was updated yesterday with a few fixes and minor changes, but Niantic didn't bring back the recently removed tracking feature. However, a small subset of users are getting the chance to test a new version of tracking. It seems to be a server-side switch, so you'll just have to cross your fingers and hope you have it. If you're a rural player, though, prepare to be disappointed. This version of "Nearby" is highly dependent on Pokéstops. Read More
Lyft, also known as the second most popular ridesharing service, announced today that they will be introducing the ability to add an extra stop to rides. This feature, which main competitor Uber does not currently offer, allows riders to add an additional destination prior to setting their pickup location in the app.
The addition of this feature means that riders will no longer have to request multiple rides or ask their driver to wait if they’re picking someone/something up. Routes will be instantly updated when a destination is added. Read More
