LastPass releases separate beta listing on the Play Store to test autofill in Android Oreo

When Google released the final version of Android Oreo in late August, one of the most useful new features was the new Autofill API. This is essentially a system-wide solution similar to the way autofill works in Chrome, and that's something that can save us all a lot of time.

Developers need to get their apps ready for the new API, and password manager LastPass was one of the first to come out and say it was in the works. A public beta was opened up, but it seems this maybe wasn't the best testing solution given the beta app has now been given its own listing on the Play Store.

Lawnchair Launcher, the Pixel-like homescreen replacement with Feed support, now on the Play Store

Lawnchair is one of the newer names in the highly competitive Android launcher space. It's worth your attention, though, as it does have a few unique features. Visually, it's able to clone the appearance and general functionality of the Pixel Launcher, even down to including the slide-out Google Feed. It also supports icon packs, if that's your thing, and it's open source. Best of all, though, now it's available in the Play Store.

The Pixel 2's camera displays photos using the "Google Photos filmstrip" and not some standalone gallery app

By now you've probably overdosed on all the Google Pixel reviews (here's ours by the way), but one thing we wanted to focus on was an interesting change in the way the Camera app will handle photo viewing on the phone.

Previously, whether you were on a Nexus or the first-gen Pixel, when you took a photo and tapped it from the Camera app, you'd be taken to a slightly barren interface like the one below: back button and All photos on top, sharing and editing and deleting and info on the bottom. The problem? This was a standalone gallery activity that only displayed local photos and didn't integrate in Google Photos.

Android Auto support arrives in Plex [APK Download]

Plex is a popular option for streaming your media collection across your network (or the internet), including music. Just like with video files, you can store all your music on a centralized server (or a cloud storage service with Plex Cloud), and stream it to any device at any time. If you've switched over to Plex for your music playback needs, like me, you'll be happy to know that the app now supports Android Auto.

Some Nougat users can't back up their phones with Drive as it incorrectly shows "disabled by admin"

Another day, another inexplicable Google bug. This time we have Google Drive and backups in Android's settings. Some users, all of whom appear to be on Nougat, are seeing this message when they delve into their phone's settings to turn on backups to Google Drive: "Disabled by your admin."

You might think that this would happen if a G-Suite account is on the device and there's an admin blocking the feature, but nope. The users complaining don't have a G-Suite account on their device: they either never had one or they had it and removed it. You might think that this could be related to the device being recently factory reset and switched to a new account, but nope.

Google app v7.14 beta teases Assistant for tablets, adds 'unlink' for Android TV devices, and more [APK Teardown]

A new version of the Google app began circulating in the beta channel late last night. This one brings a small addition that makes it easy to remove your account from a linked Android TV unit with Assistant. It's not too exciting, but it is important to have available. The more interesting details are found in the teardown, where we finally see a sign that Assistant is coming to tablets soon, the 'Recents' screen is going to get a bit more versatile with more types of content, and more.

New Google Wifi update adds support for parental controls and more [APK Download]

The internet can be a dangerous place, especially for kids. Many routers these days have some sort of parental control settings to help block access to nefarious or unsavory websites. Google's Wifi system is joining the party with the latest update. There's more stuff to be had here, but site blocking is certainly the highlight.

Google+ v9.23 adds app shortcuts for quickly starting new posts [APK Download]

Most updates to the Google+ app tend to fit the "bug fixes and performance improvements" theme, but last month's release of v9.20 did bring custom notification channels for Android 8.0 Oreo – but maybe not the ones we needed. Today's bump to v9.23 makes a similarly subtle addition with support for a slightly older OS feature: App Shortcuts. If you're running on 7.1 Nougat or above, or using a custom launcher with support for static app shortcuts, you'll now have the option to quickly start a few different types of Google+ posts directly from your launcher.
