Nokia starts beta testing Android Oreo 8.0 for the Nokia 3

Android Oreo has been trickling down Nokia's lineup starting with the Nokia 8, and now finally reaching one of the lower-end devices: the Nokia 3. We already knew the device was slated to get Oreo, but that news goes as far back as September. In phone years, that's an eternity where owners of the 3 had to sit and chew on their Nougat 7.1.1 as more expensive devices got the chocolate cookie treatment before them.

Hands on with the Nokia 1, Nokia 6 (2018), Nokia 7 Plus, and Nokia 8 Sirocco

The Nokia phone brand has been on quite a journey since its heyday in the late nineties and early two-thousands (or aughts, as David would have me write it). After Nokia's smartphone business was sold to Microsoft and became the Windows Phone flagbearer while that was still a thing, the baton has now been passed to HMD Global. HMD has been releasing Android phones under the Nokia name for just over a year now, and it's fair to say the brand is stronger than it has been for a very long time.

At MWC 2018 here in Barcelona, HMD has added to its already burgeoning phone lineup with four devices, three of which are part of the Android One program and an ultra-low-cost Android Go phone.

YouTube for Android TV adds manual resolution selection, starts rolling an updated interface

YouTube for Android has had a few ups and downs in the last months as the native app was replaced by what is essentially a web wrapper (you can test it by going to youtube.com/tv) and dumped many features that were later slowly added back. The latest of the features to make it back onto the interface is the resolution adjustment selector that you can see in the screenshot above. Also rolling out is a new interface, but it doesn't appear to be live for everyone just yet.

YouTube usually updates your video's resolution on the fly depending on your connection speed, but if you want to manually choose a specific quality setting, you can do so now.

LineageOS 15.1 announced with Android 8.1 base, customizable colors, and more

Many open-source projects, LineageOS included, live by the same motto - 'don't ask for an ETA.' Most developers of Lineage have other jobs and responsibilities, so large undertakings (like creating a new major update) take time. At long last, the waiting is over - LineageOS 15.1 is official, and it's coming to a device near you.

Alcatel reveals the world's first Android Go phone

Just two days ago, we learned that the first devices running Google's new 'Android Go' platform would be announced next week at Mobile World Congress. Now it appears Alcatel has jumped the gun a bit, and unveiled the world's first Android Go phone alongside a slew of other devices. It's called the 1X, and it's not much different from a typical budget phone, except for the software.

[Update: Now available for $900] Alpine announces Android Auto head unit with a 'floating' 9-inch display

Alpine is on hand at CES to roll out yet another Android Auto head unit, but this one might be more appealing to those with limited dash space. The iLX-F309 has a big 9-inch LCD, but it doesn't need that much space available in your dash thanks to a wacky floating design. Yes, the image above shows CarPlay, but just pretend it's Android Auto.

[Update: OTA finally rolling out] Unlocked HTC 10 is now receiving 8.0 Oreo update via OTA and RUU

Back in August, HTC promised that Oreo would come to the U11, U Ultra, and 10. The U11 (and U11 life) have both received their Oreo updates, and the 10 is next in line. The Android 8.0 Oreo OTA is now rolling out to this 2016 flagship, and if you're on the impatient side, you can download the RUU instead.

The 2018 Lamborghini Aventador S is the most expensive car you can get with Android Auto

The Lamborghini Aventador S is an engineering marvel, what with its 740-horsepower V12, all-wheel drive system, rear-wheel steering, and so on. It is getting a little long in the tooth now, thanks in part to its older single-clutch transmission, but Lamborghini added Apple CarPlay support to the Aventador S for the 2017 model year to spice things up a bit. For the 2018 model, Android Auto support is on board as well. At $417,650, that makes this the single most expensive car that supports Android Auto on the market.
