Essential—the phone company led by Android co-founder Andy Rubin—has had some difficulty in getting a stable 8.0 Oreo update released. After three beta releases, the company is not quite satisfied that the update is ready for general release. Because of these protracted issues, Essential has announced plans to skip the 8.0 release entirely in favor of 8.1, which will "push the public release back a couple weeks," according to the company. HMD/Nokia are on a roll lately. The official Oreo update came to the Nokia 7 and Nokia 6 (2018) a few weeks ago and the Nokia 8 has even started beta testing Oreo 8.1, but the company is still firing on all cylinders and hasn't forgotten its older or lower range devices. Both the Nokia 5 and the Nokia 6 are starting to get the official Oreo 8.0 update now.
HMD began testing Oreo for the Nokia 5 and 6 a few days apart back in December and now that test is over and the official update is starting to hit all devices, no need to sign up for any beta. Read More
Back in November, Samsung started rolling out beta builds of Android 8.0 Oreo for the Galaxy S8 and S8+. Huawei's been releasing Oreo betas for several of its phones, but we still haven't heard much about updates for Honor-branded devices. Now Huawei has published a list of all the devices that Oreo is being developed for. Oddly, the Honor 8 is mentioned in spite of a confirmation from Honor India on Twitter that the phone wouldn't be getting Oreo. Read More
