[New App] Yahoo's Hub Creates Group Chats Using Text Messages - With Several Limitations

The Android Market certainly doesn't have a lack of group chat-messaging clients, but it appears that Yahoo is ready to throw its hat into the ring away. Separate from the Messenger app (which has been available on Android for quite some time), Hub uses text messages over a data connection - meaning that you won't incur any text messaging charges from using it. Unfortunately, your friends who don't have the client installed will, and in fact they may not be able to use it at all.

For The Conversationalists - Today's Free Premium Amazon Appstore App Is Trillian (Normally $4.99) [4/16/11]

After a bunch of relatively uninteresting premium apps given out for free in Amazon's Android Appstore, today's offering is really quite refreshing. Users of the desktop version of Trillian will instantly recognize their beloved multi-network IM client's logo, and those new to it will find its features quite impressive:

  • support for AIM, Facebook, Live Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, ICQ, and, of course, Google Talk
  • Trillian synchronizes contacts, avatars, statuses, and accounts between Android, Mac, Windows, and Web clients
  • push notifications for those on Android 2.2+
  • multiple chat windows, emoticons, and more

While Trillian is no longer my client of choice on the desktop (Digsby took that spot), I must say that if you're looking for a great multi-network IM client on Android, it's hard to go wrong with this [normally $4.99] offering from Cerulean Studios.

Yahoo Messenger With Video Calling Ripped Out Of The Leaked MyTouch ROM, Works Great Over WiFi And 3G - Download It Now

A few days ago, Yahoo rolled out a version of the Yahoo Messenger for iOS that supported video chat and promised the same on Android shortly. Of course, we can't wait for "shortly" - that's entirely too long. Remember the Glacier/MyTouch ROM leak from yesterday? Turns out, it contains a full version of the Yahoo Messenger app, including video calling. Ripped out by the brave xda member matthewjulian, the app is available for download immediately (see below).

Official Yahoo Finance Application Now Available In The Android Market

Take a look at what I found in the Android Market this morning when I was doing a casual sift through the swamp of garbage that the Market is today. It's the official Yahoo Finance app - an app that trails behind Google's own super popular Finance app by over a year. Of course, the more the merrier, and Yahoo is a huge player in the finance world with its Yahoo Finance site, so I downloaded it to take a look.

Yahoo Mail, Messenger, And Search Hit The Android Market

Though it took a little while, Yahoo has just launched Android apps for their Mail and Messenger services, and most interestingly, their Search service.

The Mail and Messenger apps don’t really hold many surprises. They are fairly polished and include all the functions you would expect; for e-mail, this means checking, organizing, sending e-mails, and downloading attachments.

For Messenger, you are able to chat with your Yahoo friends and keep the app running in the background.

Foursquare May Walk Away From $100 Million - Are They Crazy Or Thinking Big?

Foursquare, whose check-in software has become widely popular by Android users all over and is only second to Gowalla, may very well be turning down a buyout offer by Yahoo Inc. for a rumored $100 million dollars. Are they holding out for more money or being gun-ho developers protecting their baby?

Is $100 Million A Lot?

When you compare $100 million to the previous offers other up-and-coming websites with explosive growth have gotten in regards to buyouts, it is actually on the low side.
