Sony Makes The Pink Xperia Z5 Official, Still No US launch In Sight

[Deal Alert, Kind Of] Grab The New Xperia Z5 And Z5 Compact Unlocked In The US For Around $650 And $550 Respectively

The Xperia Z5 and its variants are great looking devices, but for those of us in the US, they're just that—great looking. Sony hasn't started shipping them our way, no matter how far open we stretch our wallets.

[Q-Less] Sony's Official "Made For Bond" Site For The US Sadly Plugs The Xperia Z3+, Rest Of World Gets The Z5

Sony's non-presence in the US smartphone market only seems to be accelerating of late, with the company having closed all of its retail stores in the country (apart from the one on Madison Avenue in NYC), shut down its online shop (it redirects all listings to 3rd party retailers), and cancelled its only known upcoming device. This, alongside increasingly dismal sales performance for Xperia phones even outside America, tends to paint a not-nice picture of the company's smartphone division.

But Sony Pictures lives on, and with it, the blockbuster Daniel Craig Bond franchise. The upcoming 007 film Spectre will, of course, feature a lot of Sony product placement, including the generally well-liked Xperia Z5...

DxOMark Ranks The Sony Xperia Z5's Camera As The Best On A Smartphone Yet

Well it was nice while it lasted. Just one day after DxOMark said the Nexus 6P's camera was second only to the Galaxy S6 Edge, it has declared a new phone at the top. The title now goes to the Sony Xperia Z5.

The Xperia Z5 is set to hit the market soon with a 5.2 inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 810 chip, 3GB of RAM, and Android 5.1. But what is most relevant here is that 23MP camera on the back, which can capture 5520 by 4120 images. Sony is well known for its camera technology, and it looks like the Xperia Z5 doesn't disappoint.

[Oops] Sony Presenter Mistakes The Xperia Z5 Compact For The Xperia Z5 Premium In An Official Video

Story time. I've been a technology blogger for almost exactly four years now, and one of my first video assignments was to compare AT&T's first crop of LTE Android phones, the Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket and the HTC Vivid. At the time (November 2011) they were big deals. Throughout a 7-minute video, I kept calling the HTC Vivid the "HTC View," confusing it for a similarly-named but somewhat different device... a tablet on Sprint that came out earlier that year. No, I'm not going to link to it; if you're that eager to see me make an idiot out of myself on a poorly-shot video, you can Google it.

Sony Announces The Xperia Z5, The Still Powerful Z5 Compact, And The Larger 4K 5.5-Inch Z5 Premium

Sony's Xperia Z5 is the story of three phones. Like with previous iterations, there's the usual Z5 and Z5 Compact, but this time they're joined by the Z5 Premium. The last addition is the biggest, baddest model in the lineup, but Sony remains the one major smartphone manufacturer that remains convinced bigger isn't always better.

Sony Xperia Z5 Leaks On Video Ahead of Expected Announcement, Could Offer A 4K Screen Option

Sony kind of announced the Z4 a few months ago, but now it's moving quickly toward a do-over with the Z5. There will actually be three phones called Z5, which could be announced in a few days at IFA. You don't have to wait, though. A video from the French site Clubic was leaked showing off the Z5 in moderate detail.
