When it comes to update roadmaps, manufacturers seem to miss their target rollout dates more often than not, so it's always a nice surprise when an update shows up early. Sony is now sending out the Android 11 update for the Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 in some markets, earlier than the February date originally given (and even ahead of the newer Xperia 5 II).
When Android 11 was officially released back in August, it brought a lot of neat new features to phones. But as usual, the update hasn't rolled out to many existing handsets yet due to how different OEMs handle the upgrade process. Now Sony fans have something to look forward to, as the company has announced when a few Xperia devices will begin to see Android 11's goodies headed their way.
Sony may not be among the most popular Android OEMs, but that doesn't mean its phones are subpar. We called the Xperia 1 Sony's best phone yet in our review last year, and now you can pick it up from Amazon for just $550 — and that's not all. This bundle also includes the top-tier XM3 wireless headphones with noise cancellation
Sony phones always follow the same pattern: they start off far too expensive in the United States, then slowly fall in price until they are acceptable purchases. Now you can get an Xperia 1 and a pair of Sony's WH1000XM3 noise-cancelling headphones together for $750, a savings of around $150 compared to buying the phone and headphones separately.
If you're trying to go all-in on the Sony ecosystem on a relative budget, the Xperia 1 and popular 1000XM3 headphones have dropped to $798 on Amazon. It's kind of hard to put an exact monetary discount on this bundle, but it's a pretty good deal any way you look at it.
Most of Sony's smartphones start out far too expensive, but slowly drop in price until they become reasonable purchases. Last year's Xperia 1 is an excellent device if you don't mind having the tallest phone around, especially now that it's only $598 from Amazon.
If you like your phones big, tall, and new, the Sony Xperia 1 might be your go-to. But man, that list price of $1,000 has never felt right, especially when we reviewed it and all the little annoyances and stumbling blocks brought down the sum of its parts. However, the 1 is one of Amazon's Deals of the Day today and you might consider this lower price a bit fairer... if you're willing to accept Alexa and Amazon apps into your life.
Sony released its super-tall Xperia 1 last month, but the $950 price tag is a lot to ask, especially when many of the phone's standout features (like the 4K screen) don't add much to the experience. However, if you don't mind a few extra pre-installed apps, an Alexa version of the Xperia 1 is now available at a lower price.
