So, I'm probably not the best person to write about anything that might encourage someone to buy a DROID Charge (I sure as hell wouldn't, and our friends at Droid-life agree), but here we are. Amazon's offering the Charge for a slightly-more-reasonable price of $200 on a new 2-year agreement or eligible upgrade, down from the absolutely absurd price of $300 you'll get it for everywhere else.
I still wouldn't call it a deal. Read More
Verizon's LTE network is probably the hottest thing smokin' right now as far as networks are concerned, and, as of today, it has been expanded to nine more major metropolitan areas including Mobile and Montgomery, Alabama; Greater Fairfield and New Haven, Connecticut; Gainesville, Pensacola, and Tallahassee, Folorida; Fayetteville-Lumberton, North Carolina; and Bryan-College Station and Temple-Killeen, Texas.
Also included in this rollout is an expansion to five areas that currently have LTE coverage: Atlanta, Georgia; Chicago, Illinois; Denver, Colorado; New Orleans, Louisiana; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Read More
The refreshed version of the original and very popular Motorola Droid X - the dual-core Droid X2 with a hi-res qHD screen - is up online at VerizonWireless.com for $199.99 on a 2-year contract a whole week earlier than you will be seeing it in brick and mortar stores. With free overnight shipping, you can rock Verizon's newest and, ironically, first dual-core Android phone by tomorrow (Bionic who?).
The Droid X2 features a dual-core 1GHz processor, a 4.3" qHD display, an 8MP camera with 720p recording (no 1080p :-[), HDMI with mirror capabilities, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, DLNA, 8GB internal memory, and 8GB microSD. Read More
Like clockwork, the thumb-hungry Xperia Play from Sony Ericsson went up on VZW's site, ready for some early pre-order action. It will set you back $199.99 on a 2-year contract and should ship out May 25th to be in your hands by May 26th, all for free.
This Android 2.3 "Gingerbread" phone features a 4" screen, slide-out PlayStation-style controls, a 1GHz single-core Snapdragon processor with Adreno 205 GPU, a 5MP rear and VGA front camera, and comes with a bunch of games pre-installed: Madden NFL 11, Bruce Lee Dragon Warrior, Asphalt 6: Adrenaline, The Sims 3, Star Battalion, Crash Bandicoot, and Tetris. Official word just came out of VZW's camp that the Droid X2 will indeed be hitting the streets on the previously rumored launch date of May 26. The arrival of the X2 puts the total number of new VZW phones to hit on that same day at three (what's up with phones dropping in threes these days?) alongside the LG Revolution and Sony Xperia PLAY, so anyone looking to pick up a new handset will have somewhat of a choice to make. Droid-life just broke the news: the Revolution is coming, on May 26th, to be precise.
That's right - the LG Revolution, Verizon's third 4G LTE smartphone, is dropping next Thursday to a Verizon near you - packing a 4.3" WVGA display, a 1GHz MSM-series Snapdragon processor (same one you'll find in the Thunderbolt), and a 16GB SD card pre-installed.
The revolution has received a cosmetic touch-up for its debut next week, and now sports a sleek black battery cover and frame (it was brushed aluminum-look, previously), take a look:
We took a look at the Revolution (hands-on here) way back at CES in January, and I had some time to play with it at CTIA back in March. Read More
When Google announced its highly anticipated Music beta service at I/O last week, we were told that, aside from I/O attendees, Verizon XOOM owners would be among the first to get to use the service. Holding true to that, Google has officially started sending out the invites this morning.
As far as we know, this is exclusive to Verizon customers right now, with no word when owners of other models (or other devices) can expect to get the invite (aside from attendees with their Galaxy Tab 10.1's). Read More
Pocketnow, via a wireless accessories website, has apparently discovered the names of 3 of the carrier-branded versions of the Galaxy S II that will be coming stateside later this year. The device will be known as the Attain on AT&T, the Function on Verizon Wireless, and the Within on Sprint.
Mysteriously absent is a T-Mobile version, suggesting either that the device won't be coming to America's pinkest carrier, or that it will be arriving in a different (QWERTY?) form-factor which does not fit the case being advertised on the source webpage. Read More
The Casio G'zOne Commando is a phone that knows what it is and what it isn't. It is not, for example, Casio's answer to the Galaxy S II or the EVO 3D - it simply doesn't have that much power under its rough, tough hood. But that rough, tough hood is precisely what makes the Commando stand out from the rest of the Android smartphone crowd - unlike your average piece of plastic, it is ready to take on the challenges of an outdoorsman's life (including but not limited to being submerged in water, thrown onto cement, or given the inevitable drop kick from time to time). If you have been patiently waiting for the first 4G LTE DROID to hit Verizon's network after last month's 4G outage that delayed the original release, you'll be pleased to know that your wait ends tomorrow, as the Samsung DROID Charge is finally set to hit the shelves of Big Red.
The DROID Charge has been subject to heavy criticism due to its high price tag and lackluster hardware (read: lack of a dual core processor), and even got a not-so-great review from our own David Ruddock. Read More
