The US government has been growing increasingly critical (perhaps even paranoid) when it comes to the operation of Chinese companies in the US. Between the on-again-off-again ZTE snafu and Huawei's allegedly government-influenced issues with its US carrier deals, Chinese tech companies are running into progressively more problems doing business in the United States. This is just the start, though, as according to a recent report by Bloomberg, the FCC is set to deny China Mobile's application to provide telecommunications services in the US.

It's kind of crazy how Google Pay has been so consistently adding support for banks and credit unions in such large numbers for the past couple of years. Most recently, a whopping 171 banks/credit unions were added. Now, an additional 64 have joined the roster, and PayPal's Mastercard is now supported.

Early in the year, we'd heard that OnePlus was "investigating" potential deals that could be struck with US carriers. News on that front has been pretty silent since then, but OnePlus founder/CEO Pete Lau has confirmed to PCMag that the company is now in talks with US carriers. Additionally, a 5G-capable phone is said to be coming next year.

Samsung is no stranger to releasing new colors for its phones, but the US usually misses out on these new colors. Sunrise Gold and Burgundy Red were announced for the Galaxy S9 and S9+ last month, but the United States hadn't been name-dropped in Samsung's press release. However, it looks like the US will be getting the S9/S9+ in Sunrise Gold after all (though there's unfortunately no mention of Burgundy Red coming as well).

The decision by President Trump and the Department of Commerce to lift ZTE's ban on importing U.S. components has drawn plenty of criticism. Not only was it ZTE's second time breaking U.S. law, but many believe Chinese OEMs like ZTE and Huawei to be security threats. Now a number of senators plan to introduce a bill that will reinstate the import ban.

After the U.S. Department of Commerce banned ZTE from importing US-made components, due to the company violating an agreement it made in 2017, ZTE shut down most operations while it fought to lift the ban. Earlier this month, Trump announced he wanted to help ZTE, as part of negotiating a trade deal with China.
