OnePlus CEO confirms 7 Pro will have super-fast UFS 3.0 storage

Samsung's delayed Galaxy Fold and the Galaxy S10 5G were set to be the first phones to ship with UFS 3.0 storage, but OnePlus may end up beating them to the punch — at least, in most markets. CEO Pete Lau tweeted out confirmation earlier today that the company's upcoming 7 series of phones will feature super-fast UFS 3.0 storage.

Samsung Galaxy Fold appears to be first device to use ultra-fast eUFS 3.0 storage

It turns out that the Galaxy Fold is a phone of firsts. It's Samsung's first foldable device, it's the first mass-market foldable phone, and it also seems to be the first device to use the company's ultra-fast eUFS 3.0 storage with read speeds roughly two times faster than the OnePlus 6T's.

Newly published UFS 3.0 spec brings faster storage speeds to smartphones

The standards organization JEDEC has released version 3.0 of the Universal Flash Storage (UFS) specification. The new specification more than doubles the bandwidth from the previous version, providing up to two lanes at 1450 MB/s, for a maximum of 2.9 GB/s, compared to a maximum of 1.2 GB/s. The standard also includes temperature reporting mechanisms on the storage controller intended specifically for the automotive market, where electronics are subject to more adverse conditions.
