(Update: Game cancelled) Rush Wars is Supercell's next combat strategy game, beta now available in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand

Supercel started to hint at its next combat strategy game last Friday with a teaser tweet from an account named "Rush Wars" that contained the number "26" and the word "beta." As of this morning, we now know that this title is currently available as a beta release on the Google Play Store in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. From the looks of it, this is a game that combines many of the mechanics found in earlier Supercell releases, so if you're a fan of the studio's previous work, it appears that Rush Wars doesn't stray too far from what's made the developer so famous.

15 of the best tower defense games available on Android in 2019

It was recently brought to my attention that it's often difficult to find quality tower defense games on the Google Play Store, and since this is a subject I've yet to cover in a roundup in my three years at AP, I figured it's about time I rounded up the best TD games currently available, so that's what I've done. Below you'll find 15 of the best tower defense titles on Android. I've primarily ordered the list by the number of downloads on the Play Store, though I did place a personal favorite at the top since it's a recent release most people may not be familiar with.

Lock's Quest is the latest tower defense game on the Play Store, and it's a premium release

Lock's Quest was originally a Nintendo DS tower defense game released in 2008, and it eventually made its way to consoles and PC in 2017. This means the game was originally a premium release with an upfront price, and a mobile port just arrived on the Play Store for $7.99 without any in-app purchases or advertisements in tow, retaining the title's fair monetization. While reviews are currently mixed on the Steam listing, it's still nice to see a new premium port arrive on Android.

This came out of nowhere, but apparently, Electronic Arts is testing an open pre-alpha build for Plants vs. Zombies 3 on Android. If you'd like to get in, simply navigate to the new Play Store listing and then install the game. At first, I had trouble getting past the splash screen, but eventually, I was able to jump into the title's first stage. So if you'd like to check out what EA has up its sleeve for the next iteration of Plants vs. Zombies, now's your chance.

Ironhide Game Studio reveals 'Kingdom Rush Vengeance' with a teaser trailer

Ironhide Game Studio is probably best known for its highly lauded Kingdom Rush tower defense game. It was initially released on the web in 2011 as a Flash game, but after it made its way to iOS and subsequently won a ton of awards, it must have been apparent to the devs from that point forward that mobile was the way to go. Since the release of the Kingdom Rush on Android in 2013, we have received two more entries in the series. Kingdom Rush Frontiers in 2013, and Kingdom Rush Origins in 2014. It has been four years since the release of Origins, so we are definitely overdue for a new title in the series.

Deep Silver finally gets around to releasing 'Dead Island: Survivors' on Android

Dead Island: Survivors has been available as a soft-launched title on iOS since 2016, and the Android beta followed right along with it. As an Android user, I had all but forgotten about its existence in the last two years since the beta was not available to me in my region. It's not uncommon for iOS and Android games to sit in testing for a while, but two years is kind of pushing it. I suppose that could explain why Deep Silver FISHLABS officially released this on the down-low. Still, if you are looking for a free-to-play zombie-themed tower defense game that also contains plenty of action RPG gameplay and base building, Dead Island: Survivors should cover your needs just fine.
