Samsung's Gear S3 Classic is about a year old now, but it's still Samsung's latest and greatest smartwatch and performs just fine even today. So if you were looking to snag one on the cheap, Daily Steals is offering Grade-A refurbished Verizon/unlocked Gear S3 Classic LTE units for just $239.99 with our exclusive code. Read More
Those of you who follow Samsung closely may have noticed that devices running Android or Android-based OSes (e.g. Galaxy S9, Galaxy J7, Galaxy Gear) all have the "Galaxy" in their name for the most part, whereas those that run Tizen/other software (e.g. Gear Fit, Gear S3, Z4) don't. You can imagine our confusion, then, when it was revealed that Samsung filed trademark applications for the names "Galaxy Watch" and "Galaxy Fit." But with famed leaker Evan Blass's latest tweet, it seems like Samsung may actually be releasing a pair of Wear OS smartwatches. Read More
Samsung's wearables—fully wireless earbuds, watches, and fitness bands—have traditionally fallen under the "Gear" umbrella. A couple of new filings with the United States Patent and Trademark Office suggest that could change, though: Samsung has applied for trademarks on the names Samsung Galaxy Watch and Samsung Galaxy Fit. Considered to be one of the better smartwatches available, and my personal favorite, the Samsung Gear S3 received a substantial update today. Dubbed "Value Pack," it brings both the Classic and the Frontier to Tizen 184.108.40.206, as well as a bunch of new stuff. Read More
Samsung's latest wearables lineup has barely been on sale five minutes, but we're already seeing some good deals on them. The Gear Sport and Gear Fit2 Pro, both of which were only launched last month, can be had for $30 off the MSRP at the moment, from various retailers.
The Gear Sport was just reviewed by Ryan, and he was pretty impressed with it. He thought the experience was as close as he's seen to a compelling smartwatch for average users, with the high price point of £300 being one of the only negatives he could find with it. Read More
In an effort to combat e-waste, Samsung and iFixit announced the "Galaxy Upcycling" initiative at the Samsung Developer Conference in San Francisco. This initiative intends to allow users to develop ancillary uses for their old phones, and share the code on the Upcycling website, where other users can download and use these crowdsourced ideas. Among the ideas presented at the developer conference were Bitcoin mining clusters made from Galaxy S5 units, an arcade cabinet using a Galaxy tablet, and an IoT-connected fishtank. In addition to providing code downloads, the Upcycling website will also sell sensors and accessories for IoT-related projects. Read More
Smartwatches were supposed to be the Next Big ThingTM a few years ago when Samsung launched the original Android-powered Galaxy Gear. That device came with a laundry list of problems, but the company quickly reassessed and got on board with Android Wear while also dabbling with the Tizen wearable OS. When Samsung quietly stepped back from Android Wear, many of us thought it was a mistake. With the release of the Gear Sport, it's looking like Samsung made the right call.
The Gear Sport is a followup to last year's Gear S3. Like that watch, the Sport has a round Super AMOLED display, a rotating bezel, and the Tizen wearable OS. Read More
We've been talking about Facer since the early days of Android Wear; even before third-party watch faces were officially supported. The app has gone through some big changes over the years, and today it's getting one of its largest updates ever. Facer 4.0 adds content from a number of traditional watchmakers, along with a revamped website, wrist selfies (yes, really), and a system to detect copyright infringement. Okay, you're probably not going to be happy about that last one. Read More
Carriers and manufacturers are still trying to figure out how to sell smartwatches, and the latest idea is to make watches your phone away from phone. The LG Watch Sport and Verizon Wear24 are two Android Wear watches with LTE connectivity, allowing you to pop in a SIM card and receive phone calls and texts without a Bluetooth connection to your phone.
The Gear S3 and S3 Classic are Samsung's latest Tizen-powered watches, but until now, only a Wi-Fi version of the Classic model was available. An LTE model was announced in March, and it's finally available today at AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile. Read More
