TAG Heuer has an Android Wear watch that costs $200K

TAG Heuer's been showing off a bunch of its watches in Geneva, and one model, in particular, has caught our eye. In addition to the new smaller and cheaper Modular 41 announced yesterday, TAG Heuer has been teasing a diamond-encrusted white gold version of its Modular 45. This Android Wear-powered ostentation can be yours for a mere $200K (190’000 CHF).

TAG Heuer releases the Connected Module 41, a smaller, cheaper version of the Connected Module 45

TAG Heuer, the famous Swiss watchmaker whose name is notoriously difficult to pronounce (it's actually pronounced "tag hoy-yer"), has just announced the TAG Heuer Connected Module 41, a smaller version of the Connected Module 45 that was launched in Q1 of last year. As the name would imply, the watchface on the Connected Module 41 measures 41mm in diameter (that's one and five eighths of an inch if you love fractions and imperial units), which isn't exceedingly small for a watch, but which should hopefully begin to address one of Ryan's largest complaints with the Connected Module 45.

Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45 review: It seems like $1,500 should get you more

Smartwatches haven't exactly taken off. In fact, a number of electronics companies have pulled back on plans for Android Wear including Motorola, Sony, and Asus. That's left fewer smartphone makers in the fray, but there are also fashion designers and traditional watch designers dabbling in Wear. We will see a lot more of these smartwatches in 2017, and one of them is the extremely spendy Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45.

Comparison: All of the Android Wear devices announced or released in 2017 so far

Android Wear started off, as many Google products do, as something closer to a proof-of-concept than a finished product. The first watches had problems, the software was unfinished, and tech companies were the only ones producing them. Now that Android Wear is becoming a more mature platform, mostly thanks to the long-awaited 2.0 update, we're starting to see more watches than ever hit the market.

It was fairly easy to compare Android Wear watches in years past - only a handful of tech companies even bothered. But now, a vast amount of wearables are being released, with most of them by actual watch companies.

Android Wear 2.0 update is finally rolling out, but only to three watches for now

It's been around two months since Android Wear 2.0 officially launched, yet no watches that launched with Wear 1.0 have been updated to it yet. Nope, not even the Huawei Watch or LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition, which have been running the developer previews since mid-2016, have received this long-awaited update. That changes today, though; Android Wear 2.0 is now rolling out to the Fossil Q Founder, Casio Smart Outdoor Watch, and TAG Heuer Connected.

Tag Heuer's new Android Wear watch is modular, still super-expensive

Android Wear devices mostly hover around $250-350, depending on the specs and features they offer. Tag Heuer has no use for "conventional" pricing. Its first watch, the Connected, was priced at $1,800. Now, the second one is a little more reasonable (but only a little). The Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45 starts at $1,650. You can spend over $6,000 on one if you want.

TAG Heuer's Android Wear Watch Is Called The Connected, Costs $1500 With Sapphire Glass, A Titanium Body, And 1GB Of RAM

TAG Heuer has now officially announced the most expensive smartwatch running Android Wear, which means (by the infallible logic of luxury watch enthusiasts) that it's also the best. To be fair, in terms of materials and technical hardware, the TAG Heuer Connected probably is the best Wear device at the moment: it uses a new-to-Wear 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor and 1GB of RAM, along with 4GB of storage and a 410mAh battery. That means it should be faster than most current Wear devices, and with double the memory, it might have significantly better performance. It had better: TAG's suggested price and the going rate on the online store is a whopping $1500.

Tag Heuer Teases First Image Of Its Android Wear Watch For People With More Money Than Sense

Tag Heuer is a Swiss luxury watchmaker. Like most luxury watchmakers, its sole purpose is to convince you, the [probably male] consumer, through various lifestyle marketing and product placement deals that its product is for people who know what's up. It's hip. It's happening. It's trendy. It's classic. It's now. It's timeless - and it tells time. Also, something about precision Swiss engineering that doesn't really matter. Oh, and it will totally make you both attractive and fit in with wealthy people!

Above, you can see a silhouetted image of the company's upcoming smartwatch. It's a watch. It will tell time.

TAG Heuer Android Wear Smartwatch Will Be Revealed On November 9th For $1800

This past spring we heard that an upcoming partnership between Google, Intel, and TAG Heuer would result in a high-end Android Wear smartwatch. At that point, the rumors said it would be shipping in October or November and that it would come with a hefty price tag of $1400. Jean-Claude Biver, the CEO of TAG, told CNBC yesterday that the company would be unveiling its new smartwatch at an event on November 9th in New York.

The price of the Carrera 01 will be $1800, which is a bit above what was previously reported. This is by far the most expensive Wear watch to date, with the closest being the $800 Huawei Watch. Biver says that he believes the Carrera 01 will sell just fine at this price point, considering how well the similarly priced Apple Watches have done over the past few months.

Report: TAG Heuer's Android Wear-Powered Watch Is Scheduled For October Or November With A $1400 Price TAG

Does the lack of $1000+ status symbols available for the Android Wear market really get you down? If it does, then start saving your pennies now. According to Bloomberg, TAG Heuer and its owner LVMH intend to release a luxury smartwatch in either October or November of this year, with a price tag expected to be around $1400. That's much, much more expensive than even the priciest Android Wear devices to date, about entry-level for a TAG watch, and approximately one tenth the price of the most expensive Apple Watch.

We've heard that TAG Heuer intends to release a smartwatch in partnership with Google and Intel, making it the first of the Swiss luxury brands to jump on an established wearable platform.
