WSJ: Google Could Announce Wireless Service As Early As Wednesday

We've been hearing (and seeing) more and more about Google's possible wireless service lately, but WSJ published a report this evening indicating that the service's launch may be even sooner than we anticipated.

For those unaware, rumors have been swirling that Google might be ready to open up its own wireless service, an MVNO backed by Sprint and T-Mobile networks, codenamed "Nova."

Tonight's report from the Wall Street Journal suggests Google could be ready to announce the service as early as tomorrow, April 22. Additionally, the report corroborates previous whisperings that Nova would only charge customers for the amount of data they actually use every month, with totals being driven lower by the service's apparent emphasis on using WiFi for voice and data when possible.

T-Mobile Starts Rolling Out The HTC One M9 Camera Improvement OTA Update, AT&T Version Coming Soon

You can also get the full RUU for this OTA from HTC right here.

Sprint got it last week, now T-Mobile is the next in line. The flagship HTC One M9 leaves a lot to be desired in the camera department, at least on the stock version of the phone's software. HTC has issued a small update that should dramatically improve camera quality, though it has to be said that the comparison shots we've seen thus far are still noticeably behind other recent high-end Android phones.

[Update: Sprint Version] Team Win Recovery Project Now Available For The Samsung Galaxy S6

Right on time, Team Win has delivered their much-loved custom Android recovery to Samsung's new flagship. You can download it here.

This particular build of TWRP was tested on the T-Mobile version of the Galaxy S6.

T-Mobile Is Pushing Android 5.0 To The LG G2

Sony Xperia Z4 Leaks Pick Up As T-Mobile Halts Sales Of The Z3

It would seem Sony is still engaged in the bizarre ritual of releasing a slightly tweaked version of its flagship smartphone every six months or so. The alleged Xperia Z4 has leaked repeatedly in recent days, and now it looks like T-Mobile might know something we don't. The carrier won't sell you a Z3 anymore, because apparently that phone is yesterday's news.

[Update: OTA Rollout Paused] T-Mobile's LG G3 Finally Gets Lollipop, But Not Via OTA Yet

It has been a few weeks since Lollipop rolled out to the LG G3 on AT&T and Sprint, but T-Mobile users have been left in the lurch. The update is finally available, but it's not available as an OTA just yet. If you want Android 5.0.1 right now, you need to install LG's (awful) update software on your computer.

T-Mobile Revamps Its Coverage Maps, Now Relies On Real-Time Customer Data For Improved Accuracy

So here's a fun fact: when you look at a carrier's coverage map, you're actually seeing its best guess as to where coverage is strong/weak/dead/etc. It's basically a theoretical map – it's where they should have coverage (but no promises are being made).

T-Mobile, once again priding itself on being "uncarrier," is changing the way it does its coverage maps, and it actually makes a lot of sense. Instead of just using guesswork to let customers see their coverage area, it's crowdsourcing using real-time customer data. This way, you'll get a real idea of what to expect in terms of service limitations.

T-Mobile Galaxy S6 Edge Pre-Orders Are Already Being Delivered To Some Lucky Folks

The official availability date for the Samsung Galaxy S6 is April 10th, but T-Mobile cares not for the workings of the calendar. Pre-orders made on Friday with overnight shipping are currently on-track for Monday deliveries, and a few Edge devices have already shown up for those who selected Saturday delivery.

T-Mobile Versions Of The Galaxy S6 And Galaxy S6 Edge Get Their First OTA Update

We're getting a few reports that some T-Mobile customers who preordered the Galaxy S6 and its edgier brother are already receiving their phones. When they turn them on, they might just be greeted by an over-the-air update right away. The new builds are actually dated March 22nd, so it's probable that every S6 and S6 Edge in T-Mobile's initial batch will need this update. The build is Android 5.0.2, labeled G920TUVU1AOCG and G925TUVU1AOCG for the S6 and S6 Edge, respectively.

There aren't any new features in either update, just a handful of fixes from Samsung:

  • Fingerprint scanner improvements
  • 'Failed to reboot' error message
  • Clock drift fix
  • Audio quality improvements
  • Calendar event fix
  • Exchange Global Address Lookup fix

Given T-Mobile's usual staged rollout, it may take several days or even a week or so for the OTA to get to your phone.

T-Mobile's Netflix Promotion For The Galaxy S6 Goes Live, Applies To Devices Bought Between Now And April 12th

Word got out earlier this week that T-Mobile would offer anyone who buys a Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge from them a free year of Netflix. That's a savings of over $100 and a pretty good deal, especially if you're already a Netflix customer.

Now the promotional page has gone live. If you head over to Samsung's website, you can sign up for the offer, though it says you must actually have the phone in hand before following the process through to completion. That's something you can't actually do until either model goes on sale.

Note, pre-orders will count, and the promotion includes devices purchased between now and April 12th.
