T-Mobile Revvl Tab being held up in the sunlight
T-Mobile Revvl Tab 5G review: Free doesn't always mean bad

It's not a showstopper, but the Revvl Tab gets the job done

I always reserve healthy skepticism for free promotional devices offered by different phone carriers. I’ve found they often feature woeful displays, shoddy build quality, and anemic performance — all things you want to avoid in a new device. Surprisingly, though, that’s not the case with the T-Mobile Revvl Tab 5G.

T-Mobile unveils budget Revvl Tab 5G tablet that's free with a new line

T-Mobile really wants you to activate another line

In a tech world full of tens upon hundreds of budget Android smartphones, it’s difficult finding ones that are worth your time and consideration as consumers. In 2022, T-Mobile offered sixth-generation Revvl devices that, while severely lacking in screen resolution, offered some things not typically seen in sub-$500 phones, such as wireless charging. The carrier went a step further and offered the phone for free with qualifying 24-month plans. T-Mobile has kept the Revvl brand alive and is announcing not just two new smartphones but a new budget tablet, the Tab 5G.

T-Mobile's latest REVVL phone is all: big screen, 5G, can't lose

Another entry in the carrier's budget-friendly series

Every carrier offers its own branded devices, usually aiming to lure customers in with low prices. T-Mobile has had its REVVL series for a few years now, selling phones made by Motorola or TCL but with its own logo on the back. The REVVL V+ 5G is its latest release, and if you've been looking to find an affordable 5G-friendly smartphone, this might be the one for you. There are two things you'll notice about this device right away: it's big, and it's cheap. With a 6.82" HD+ display, this is a giant phone. Just look at the hands-on video T-Mobile published below — it looks comically big, with a size increase over last year's already massive REVVL 5G (careful not to mix them up). The carrier plans to sell it for just under $200, with specs to match: a MediaTek Dimensity 700 chip, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage.

Back in August, T-Mobile released its own branded budget phone, the 'REVVL.' For $125, it offered a few features rarely found at its price point, like a fingerprint sensor. The carrier said it sold three times more REVVL phones than it initially planned, so now T-Mobile has released a higher-end model, fittingly named the 'REVVL Plus.'
