Google Express has been around for years, allowing you to order items from multiple retailers through one central location. The service gained more popularity after the Google Home was released, since you could place orders using only voice commands, similar to Amazon on Alexa speakers. Now it appears one major store is pulling out of Express - Staples.
While Chromebooks continue to inch more into the mid-range and high-end laptop tiers, there are still entry-level models to help you dip your feet into the world of Chrome OS. In another twist to the story that just won't go away, the Nexus 10 has now disappeared from Staples' online inventory. Going to the tablet's former URL on staples.com now simply redirects you to their main tablet landing page, and searching for "Nexus 10" now shows nothing except for a case and some screen protectors.
The retail slugfest that is Black Friday is almost upon us, and several stores are eager to get in a few punches before the bell. That includes Staples, which is reviving its well-received off tablets coupon from earlier this year. The coupon is valid online, in stores, or over the phone (people still shop over the phone?) but it will expire after today, November 27th.
Christmas is coming a little early this year – Staples has a coupon that gets you $50 off any tablet over $149. That means you can get a solid deal on several great Android slates.

At this very moment in time, the new Nexus 7 is probably the hottest tablet on the planet. There's a good reason for that, too: Google built on what it started last year with the first gen N7, improving it in almost every way. The new generation has a faster processor, double the RAM, and a higher-resolution display, just to name some of the most obvious changes. Early reviews of the device (worry not, ours is on the way) have praised it almost endlessly, proving that Google really hit the mark with its newest small tablet.
Prospective second-gen Nexus 7 buyers, you've got one more option for when the Play Store is (probably) overwhelmed on July 30th. Staple has already posted pages for the 16GB and 32GB WiFi versions of the new Nexus 7, though of course you can't buy one just yet - they're both marked as out of stock. Staples was one of 11 retail partners mentioned in the Google announcement. The prices are the standard $229.99 and $269.99, respectively.
We must be achingly close to a new 7-inch slate from Google with all the Nexus 7 sales going on. This time the already low price over at Staples is getting even lower with the application of a $30 coupon code. This is a solid deal, even for last year's model.
We've seen every indication a shiny new Nexus 7 is on the way from Google, including retailers clearing out stock of the original tablet at steep discounts. Staples is up today with a price reduction on both 16GB and 32GB versions. It's not a bad price, but there are online deals for less. This does, however, make it look like Staples is making room for a new product – most other brick-and-mortar retailers are sticking to the default price.
Update: At the time of writing, Staples has marked the Nexus 10 "Out of Stock." We'll let you know if and when it reappears.
We knew this would happen. As soon as Google discontinued the 8GB version of the Nexus 7 and dropped the price of the 16 to $199, there were slew of comments along the lines of "now I'll just wait for the 8GB closeout sales." Well, Staples is the first to step up to the plate with that.
We just posted some internal photos from Staples showing that the 32GB Nexus 7 is, indeed, making its way into retail stockrooms. And that's exciting. What we didn't show you, though, was one more photo from our intrepid office supply tipster, which contains some rather juicy information regarding the fate of the 8GB version of the Nexus 7. Add another chapter to the Nexus 7 32GB saga. We've seen it once, twice, three times - and now it has showed up on Staples Advantage (their site for business users) with an estimated availability date of October 18th. That's probably just some sort of placeholder, though - it's highly unlikely that we'll see it show up in just two days' time.
This is definitely a good deal for anyone who has been waiting for a rock bottom price on a new tablet: using this coupon, you can get $100 off any tablet at Staples. $300 ASUS Eee Pad Transformer or Acer Iconia Tab A500 anyone? The latest in a string of rumors about the upcoming Wi-Fi-only version of the Motorola XOOM comes from the team at Droid Life, who say that the carrier-free model may be hitting Staples stores on or around April 3. The same folks are also now reporting another leak from Staples which shows that employees will get the slate in their hands to begin training on March 23.
