Rumorville: HTC EVO 4G Pre-Order To Start April 16th

A rumor is floating around, started by an alleged BestBuy employee, about BestBuy starting EVO 4G preorders within a couple of weeks, possibly starting on April 16th.

The rumor comes from gstill4, an AndroidCentral forum member, who posted this last night at 11PM:

I work at best buy and I got info today that best buy mobile is about to get ready to take pre-orders within a couple weeks and it could possibly start on april 16th

We were already expecting BestBuy to start preorders for the EVO 4G sometime soon, and this only reassures our expectations, whether gstill4 is credible or not.

Samsung Moment Android 2.1 Pictures Surface - Insider Says Update Likely This Week

A few days ago on April 2nd, a forum poster by the name of KansasCityJoe turned up at AndroidCentral.com forums out of nowhere and suggested he had a pre-release version of Android 2.1 on a Samsung Moment. KansasCityJoe, being a busy urban dude, has not posted any evidence, however, and other forum readers quickly called him out on it.

Fast forward 3 days to today and what do you know - Joe posted 7 pictures, indeed showing the Moment running Android 2.1.

Sprint HTC Hero Android 2.1 Update Delayed Again, New Tentative Release Date Is Now April 9th

Rumors have been flying for the past few months that Sprint and HTC would update the Hero to the long awaited Android 2.1 Eclair today - March 26th, 2010.

These rumors have been shattered today by conversations with multiple Sprint customer service reps and a posting of an internal memo by Phandroid announcing the new update date - April 9th, 2010.

While the memo lists the 4/9/10 update as "maintenance", according to an alleged Sprint employee rkendle53 from the xda forums Sprint calls all updates "maintenance", even major ones.

Sprint CEO Confirms 4G On Your Phone Will Not Cost Extra

Yesterday we reported that Sprint will not charge extra for using 4G on your phone, based on the response from a Sprint customer service rep. Some people pointed out that customer service reps are oftentimes wrong, and while we certainly agree with that statement, the CSR was quite confident in her response. Additionally, a good portion of the news market nowadays is comprised of rumors.

Thankfully, we didn't have to wait too long for the "rumor" to be confirmed.

Android Developers Take Note: Sprint Posted Dev Guides And Code For Supporting 4G/3G/WiFi Switching, Front-facing Camera, HDMI

Following yesterday's announcement of the first 4G handset for Sprint, the company earlier today posted a bunch of new helpful information to their Android Developers site to guide developers around the newly introduced features never before seen on an Android phone, or even *any* mobile phone.

Here is the new stuff that what we found there:

  • Sprint's developer guide for the HTC EVO 4G handset provides best practices on:

Sprint Goes After AT&T And Apple In A Snarky 4G Sprint Overdrive Mobile Hotspot Vs iPhone Commercial

Sprint has fired a shot at both AT&T and Apple in this recently released Sprint Overdrive 4G vs iPhone commercial, suggesting that an iPhone's bandwidth can be vastly improved by using a Sprint 4G WiMax router called Sprint Overdrive instead of the AT&T 3G network.

The ad is a bit cheesy but hey, it delivers the message. A carefree Matt actually goes on to eat an Apple (the ultimate pun) while showing off his 4G mobile hotspot that allows up to 5 people around him to connect to a 4G network using WiFi.

The 4.3" 1GHz HTC Supersonic Sprint Announcement Imminent Today 03/23/2010 (Or Tomorrow 03/24/2010?)

The mobile sphere is abuzz with the rumors of a possible HTC Supersonic announcement tomorrow, all caused by a tiny note Sprint posted in the member area on Sprint.com. Here is a screenshot (courtesy of Sprint Forums):

According to other users who have talked to various Sprint customer service reps, Supersonic is indeed "coming very very soon", which seems to only confirm the rumor. Of course, nothing is 100% until we tune into the announcement… the time of which is currently unknown.
