WiFi streaming is all the rage these days, and Spotify has long had a proprietary solution that works with certain speakers. Spotify Connect has only been available to Premium subscribers in the past, but that's about to change.Read More
Spotify is making some big changes this week. Both the Wear OS app for smartwatches and the Android app are getting overhauled, though the latter only concerns Premium subscribers.Read More
The Ultimate Ears BLAST and MEGABLAST are good speakers overall, but there were two main areas in which we felt that they weren't quite up to snuff: pricing and features. The pricing concern has largely been alleviated, with some seriously good deals being offered on both models in the past few weeks, but we hadn't heard much on the feature front. Ultimate Ears has just announced that the BLAST and MEGABLAST will be getting Spotify Connect support, as well as some features it should have shipped with.Read More
The Jensen brand might evoke a lot of nostalgia for many of you, but the company isn't stuck in the past. One of its recent forays into modern audio tech is the JSB-1000, which was announced earlier this year, and is its first Chromecast built-in speaker. But that's not the only notable feature of the JSB-1000. For the past few months, the JSB-1000 has been blaring in my kitchen as part of my whole-home Chromecast speakers + Google Homes setup and it has quickly become an integral part of our daily lives. I love the JSB-1000, but each time I think about its current price and competition, I put a question mark around my recommendation of it.Read More
When JBL announced the Playlist more than a year ago, I was immediately smitten. I had heard nothing but good things about JBL's speakers, I had even quickly sampled the Xtreme and Charge 3 at a local store and barely managed to walk away without throwing my money at the salesperson. So the idea of that sound with Chromecast built-in was, to say the least, enticing.
Fast forward months of delays where the speaker was nowhere to be found and only available for pre-order in the UK (and maybe some other European countries) and I could have forgotten about the Playlist...Read More
It turns out Spotify Connect has a very useful feature that the company hasn't done much to make immediately obvious. The service, which lets you stream music to WiFi-connected speakers from your smartphone or tablet, also lets you pump music to other Android devices. The devices don't even have to be on the same network, for that matter. You can connect from an LTE network, as you can see in the screenshots below.
This means you can plug an aging handset into any old speaker and stream Spotify to the setup, just as long as it's logged in too, making this is a great way to open up Spotify Connect up to more devices outside of the handful of supported models.Read More
A few months ago Spotify introduced the ability for users to stream music over Wi-Fi to a select speakers. The feature, coined Spotify Connect, was unfortunately limited only to iOS devices. Now an update has landed for the Android app that officially makes it multi-platform.
You will need a Spotify Premium subscription in order to make use of this feature, but that's not all. Only a few speakers currently work with Spotify Connect. Bang & Olufsen has the BeoPlay A9, and Pioneer has distributed a firmware update adding compatibility to several of their models.
Spotify Connect doesn't offer much that you can't already do with a Bluetooth speaker, but it does save you from having to pair your device.Read More
