Review: Aukey's portable generator and solar panel saved me during a power outage
The PowerTitan 300 is a big battery, and the PowerHelio Y100 is a big solar panel, and together they solve big problems
It's a slightly different sort of work day as I sit down to write this review. My power is out, the house is dark, and I'm outside on the deck with my laptop, phone as a hotspot, blogging and Slacking and what have you. But I'm fine, and excluding the distraction of a breeze and the nicer view, I'm still able to get my job done. In fact, the only reason I can is because of the subject of this review: The Aukey PowerTitan 300 and PowerHelio Y100.I know this sounds like the premise for some marketing copy or sponsored content, but it's not. I'm just a blogger who took way too long to get around to reviewing this big battery I got sent in the middle of January. Of course, it was winter, and testing a solar panel in the snow sounded like an awful time to me, so I marked my calendar for an outdoor trip this summer and forgot about the hardware in my closet until the power was scheduled to be out for an entire workday. "That's right," I thought, "I have something for that."

Large areas of California – from the Sacramento Valley, to northern Sierra, and along the North Coast – have recently gone dark as local energy providers killed the power grid to ward off potential wildfires. Unfortunately, these extreme measures have left tens of thousands of residents without electricity, air conditioning, or a way to power mobile devices for weeks at a time, and more blackouts may be on the way. In an attempt to help residents combat lengthy outages, Jackery is offering its Explorer 240 Portable Power Station+ 60w SolarSaga solar panel for $60 off with a promo code.

For many of us, an external battery pack comes in near the top of our accessory priority list. Whether you travel for work or pleasure, topping up your gadgets on the go can be important, and that need can extend into durations or locations that require a few extra features or added durability. So, for all you outdoorsy types prepping for summer trips, we're taking a quick look at two new RAVpower batteries. One is "waterproof," both are solar-powered, and they clock in at 10,000mAh and 25,000mAh respectively. Before you get too excited about harnessing the functionally infinite power of the sun for yourself, keep in mind that the small size of the solar panels equates to a pretty slow charging speed. You won't be topping either of these batteries up to full just laying them out in the sun for the day. At the fastest possible speeds, it might give you, say, an extra 800-1200mAh per day. They're more perk than point if you decide to pick one up. Even so, it's an extra free bit of power that could make a difference out on the trails, giving your electronic safety net the ability to replenish itself without an outlet. The larger 25,000mAh battery offers a durable rubber-encased "waterproof" design with plenty of capacity, while the smaller 10,000mAh battery brings solar power to a pocketable form-factor. In my opinion, it's the bigger battery that's worthy of your attention, but either way, we've also got a pair of exclusive coupons (good until the end of July) that make them both a little cheaper.
A couple of weeks ago, we shared with you a deal for Arlo's Pro 2 cameras, but it was only for the 6-pack of cams. If you don't have a large surface to cover and you're interested in getting a new security system (or adding to your existing one), today's deals might be right up your alley.First, the Arlo Pro 2 is the upgraded version of Arlo's wire-free security cameras with 1080p video recording, weather resistance, activity zones, 7 days of free cloud recording, and plenty of smart home integrations (Google Assistant, Alexa, SmartThings, IFTTT, and more). The cameras have rechargeable batteries and aren't directly connected to your Wi-Fi network: they require a hub, which Arlo calls a Base Station. With the introduction out of the way, let's talk deals. The add-on Arlo Pro 2 camera, which works if you already own the Base Station, is down from $219.99 to $175.10. That's about $25 less than the last time we saw it on discount. You can find the deal at these retailers:
