Pre-order an Amazon Echo Show 5 two-pack for $150 ($30 off)

More and more smart displays are coming onto the market, and Amazon's Echo Show 5 is one of the smaller offerings. As the name suggests (sort of), it has a rather minute 5.5" display, meaning it'll go head to head with Lenovo's similarly tiny Smart Clock. Amazon is currently offering a $30 pre-order discount for those who purchase two, bringing the price down to $149.98 for both.

This is a great opportunity to get an extra intelligent device in your household, or even to buy your first one if you don't have one already.

Assistant Smart Displays can now speak Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, and Swedish

Even though intelligent speakers can converse in an impressive thirteen languages, smart displays weren't as fast in completing their curriculum. Indeed, although they could initially interact exclusively in English, they've recently learned French and German as Lenovo launched its products in these two countries. Last week, users reported their devices started speaking Portuguese, Polish, and Hindi. However, these weren't mentioned on the company's support pages and could only be used as a second language. Nevertheless, Google just added four Northern European dialects to its list of officially supported languages, meaning they can be used as the primary tongue on smart displays.

[Update: Polish too] Assistant-enabled smart displays can now speak Brazilian Portuguese

Back in November, Assistant added support for Brazilian Portuguese, and intelligent speakers were able to communicate with their owners in this language. Unfortunately, smart displays weren't so great at learning a new tongue and couldn't interact with people in Portuguese as quickly as Google Homes. However, the devices have now graduated and are fully fluent in the language, as Nest Hubs and similar devices can now handle conversations em português.

[Update: Up for pre-order] The long-awaited Lenovo Smart Clock will likely go on sale imminently

When the Lenovo Smart Clock was unveiled at CES in January, it was hard not to want one despite the $79.99 price tag. It's a tiny smart display with a 4-inch screen made specifically for your nightstand and it's undeniably adorable. It's been pretty much radio silence since the announcement, however, with only a vague Spring arrival touted. New pages just added to the Lenovo support site suggest we won't have to wait much longer.

Google Assistant will soon have more interactive visual content on Android and smart displays

Google Assistant smart displays are (in their current form) smart speakers with some level of visual feedback. Asking for the weather shows you the forecast for the week, asking for the news can show a video news briefing, and so on. There are only a handful of interactive smart display experiences right now (like step-by-step cooking), but now Google is giving developers the tools they need to create them.

Google Home Hub may launch in Canada soon, as Smart Displays add French Canadian support

In the past couple of years, Google has only added new language support for Assistant on a product when that particular product went officially on sale in the dialect's corresponding country. For example, the Home speakers began speaking Italian a few days before they launched on the Store in Italy, same for Spanish and Spain/Mexico, Chinese and Taiwan, etc... you get the gist. So upon seeing that Smart Displays can now speak French Canadian, it's easy to extrapolate that the Home Hub may soon be coming to Canada.
