NVIDIA Quietly Extends The Free Period Of Its GRID Game Streaming Service For SHIELD Owners Into September

NVIDIA's GRID gaming service, which streams high-end PC games to the company's Android-powered hardware at extremely low latency, has been promoted as one of its best exclusive features. Unfortunately, NVIDIA seems to be having a lot of trouble getting over the last few hurdles to actually launch the thing. GRID has been in beta since late 2013, and was scheduled to launch its paid service in July as of the SHIELD Android TV announcement. Now it looks like the full launch has been pushed back again.

Shortly after the SHIELD TV's product launch in June NVIDIA announced that it would be bumping the free preview period of GRID to July 31st, with a full service launch in August.

Hey, how hilarious would it be if NVIDIA managed to update its SHIELD Tablet to Android 5.1 before Google updates the Tegra-powered Nexus 9? Wait, no, hilarious isn't the right word. ____ is the right word (which the Android Police style guide won't let me publish), according to N9 owners.

Hey guys, As part of the SHIELD tablet experience post-OTA 2.0, we heard your feedback about performance and responsiveness issues related to the Android OS.

No, It's Not Your Eyes – Some SHIELD Tablets Are Experiencing Color Reproduction Issues After The 2.2 Update

A couple of days ago, we reported that NVIDIA was pushing update 2.2 to SHIELD Tablet units. For the most part, the update is a good one – it brings more GRID games, improved battery life, broader support for high performance chargers, and overall performance enhancements. Those are all the makings of an excellent update, no doubt.

However, a small number of users are experiencing weird color reproduction issues on their tablets, mostly with bright colors like red and orange – they just look dull post-update. After receiving a tip about this very thing, I realized that my LTE unit seems to be suffering from this bug, and the once vibrant red and black wallpaper now just looks much less enthusiastic.
