Wyze, the company known for making affordable smart home products, was rumored to be working on a fitness tracking band and a smart scale. The company confirmed this information and released further details on their availability last month, hinting these devices were almost ready to hit the market. We now know they will be available for early access buyers on Tuesday.
Based on the details of an FCC exhibits listing, Wyze may soon have a smart bathroom scale to add to its smart home gadget lineup of security cameras, sensors, and lights. The "Wyze Scale" will run off of 4 AAA batteries, connect to the Wyze app over Bluetooth, and measure both weight and body fat percentage. According to a report by Zatz Not Funny!, a Wi-Fi smart plug may also be in the works.
Some number of months ago (I forget how many), I decided I needed to lose some weight. Using MyFitnessPal to monitor my food intake/calories and Runtastic's suite of apps to track my cycling activities, I was able to knock off something like 45 pounds. I've since gained back about 10 of those pounds for various reasons, but I'm finally getting back on top of things so I can get back to where I want to be.
A big part of weight loss is having a good, accurate scale. While there are plenty of options out there, one with Bluetooth connectivity can simplify your weight loss journey since it can essentially automate weight tracking.
Archos is known around these parts for their budget tablets, a few cheap smartphones, and, most recently, an Android-powered netbook. Well in case you've forgotten, the company has an upcoming activity tracker, scale, and blood pressure monitor that it would love for you to pick up as well, all of which it unveiled back at CES. These "Connected Self" products will require a companion app to get much use out of, which the company has just dropped into the Play Store.
The app does what you would expect, monitoring steps taken throughout the day, your weight, and your blood pressure.
Launcher Pro, my favorite launcher replacement, got updated today with a much requested feature - homescreen transition animations, available to all LP users, not just Plus. In addition to the usual and very smooth slide effect, we now have 4 more: Scale, Rotate, Flip, and Cube. All are smooth, except for the Cube transition, so I would advise against using it until Fede makes it a bit more snappy. Out of 5 transitions (including the regular slide), my favorite is definitely Flip. What's yours?
Excuse the poor frame rate in the screencast - unfortunately, that's ShootMe's max for the time being
