[Review] Nano Panda Shrinks Down the Science-Based Physics Fun

Let's say you've got a problem of a scientific nature: you've got a group of rogue atoms wreaking havoc in your petri dish, and you need to get rid of them. They've managed to convert certain structures into deadly traps, and are content to just hang around like a college grad who just won't move out. Who do you send in to fix this problem?

If you answered "Pandas", I'd like you to get your head checked.

It seems like it was just yesterday that mobile game developer Rovio Mobile announced that Angry Birds Rio would be coming to the Android Market and... Oh, wait, it was just yesterday. I guess they didn’t want to waste any time delivering on that promise!

Rovio (Of Angry Birds Fame) Valued At Over $200 Million, Has Already Raised $42 Million In Funding

The success that the Angry Birds games have brought to Rovio is stunning, really: the company was reportedly on the verge of bankruptcy when it released the game, and today, revenue is estimated to be between $50 and 70 million annually. It's perhaps no surprise, then, that the company raised $42 million in funding earlier this month, and they enjoyed the luxury of picking and choosing their investors. They even reportedly determined the terms of investment - quite the reversal of roles.

Video: Angry Birds Rio To Lose Pigs, Add Boss Fights

A video of Ville Heijari, a Rovio "Bird Whisperer" (aka representative), showing off the gameplay of the upcoming Angry Birds Rio popped up on YouTube this morning. While the gameplay looks like much of the same kamikaze fowl-smashing action we have come to know and love, there are a few new additions. The evil pigs and stolen eggs are gone, animal poachers are in, and you now have boss fights.

The Rovio employee described the upcoming game as featuring "no eggs, no pigs, but just pure anger." He promises many episodes lined up for 2011, inferring that the game will be continuously updated with new levels.

Rovio Mobile And 20th Century Fox Are After Your Productivity Once Again With Angry Birds Rio

Rovio Mobile's award-winning Angry Birds. 20th Century Fox's upcoming Rio. A perfect match?

2011-01-28 19h36_45

Rovio and 20th Century Fox obviously think so - they've teamed up to develop a new version of Angry Birds based entirely on Rio. They say it's coming to "app stores" in March (hopefully that includes the Android Market), and will feature 45 levels to call its own. Check out this cinema-quality teaser video Rovio released:

Looks like the Angry Birds brand isn't going away anytime soon - which could be either good news or bad news, depending on how you look at it.

Rovio Releases Angry Birds Seasons With 70 New Christmas And Halloween Levels [Hands-On]

Just as promised, Rovio, the maker of the oh-so-popular Angry Birds, released a separate game called Angry Birds Seasons today, which contains 45 Halloween levels, previously only available on iOS, as well as 25 Christmas levels.

I haven't spotted any new birds yet, and I doubt they've added any, but I'm sure a few hours later, when you all finish every level, you will let us know. Oops, I take that back - the snow levels are available one per day, starting today, all the way through December 25th (see the last screenshot to see what happens if you try to click on day 2).

Angry Birds Updated: 45 New Levels, New Storyline And A New Bird!

Just when you thought your torment was over, Rovio have struck back with a glut of new levels. Some pigs just never learn, do they? Also included in the update is proper QVGA support, a dour-looking boulder bird, as well as fixes for some graphical issues. Best part about it? Rovio haven't removed the bug found on reddit that allows you to skip locked worlds, so you can go straight to these new levels even if you haven't passed the worlds before it.

Full Version Of Angry Birds Coming Friday – Here Is What To Expect [Hands-On]

Last week, I had to deliver disappointing news about the full version of Angry Birds, the most addicting game on Android, getting delayed till this week, mostly due to proper multi-tasking support. Today, I'm glad to report that not only did Rovio commit to a Friday (tomorrow) release, as evident from the screenshot below, but also sent us a full version to play with.

Unfortunately, I didn't have the time to shoot a video review, but I did, however, collect some interesting screenshots together with all the info you need to know, presented in my most favorite bullet point style:

  • the version that was sent to us contains ads (see screenshot #7 below) which shows up from time to time, I'd say about once per level
  • in our email exchange, the company also hinted at an interesting distribution model, which they didn't disclose.

The Bad News: Full Version Of Angry Birds For Android Delayed To Next Week. The Good News: You Have Your Life Back... For Now

If there is one game on Android that keeps me coming back to it, even after I already beat all the levels, it's Angry Birds. The beta version, limited to 15 levels, was released about a month ago and proved to be a completely undeniable success, reaching 250k downloads in only 4 days. The game is so addicting that beating your own high scores can become a full time job to some.
