Last year, YouTube removed one of the most useful features in its app: the ability to tap anywhere on the seek bar to skip to that moment in the video. Apparently, accidental taps were frustrating some users so instead of making it an optional setting, the feature was completely scrubbed (pun intended). Now, a new gesture might make that regressive change a little more palatable.

A little Android-like trickle-down
Last year, Google introduced new media playback controls for Chrome and Chrome OS, helping you control music or videos playing in the background without opening the respective window or tab. While the feature is already incredibly useful in its current form, Google is looking to make it even better by adding a scrubbing bar and a background matching the album cover or thumbnail.
It turns out that Android Q's second beta release actually has a lot of great additions packed in. Case in point: media notifications now have progress bars, and they're seekable, too. This should make things a lot more convenient for those who like to jump around during music, podcast, or video playback.
Some luxuries of our online lives can be gravely underestimated until you hit some nook or cranny of the World Wide Web that doesn't have them. Take seek bars in videos. Have you ever stopped to think how awesome they are? You can skip forward if you're not interested in what's happening now but would like to check if there's something else down the line in that video. Or you can go back and re-watch what you missed or misunderstood. None of it sounds like an indulgent ask until you open Instagram. The social platform has been averse to such an extravagant feature, but seems to be working on it now.
Google is gradually bringing the dark theme to many of its apps and services, and the Pixel's update UI is the latest to receive it. Additionally, some are also seeing a percentage for the installation progress bar now while updating. It looks like Google's been implementing quite a few changes in this area recently.
