Some are experiencing a rattling or buzzing problem with the Pixel 2 XL's speakers

Google's Pixel 2 XL might be a great phone, but it hasn't been without controversy. Now we can add one more issue to the growing list. For many, one or both of the phone's front-facing speakers suffer from distortion/rattling. In some cases, the problem only seems to crop up at louder volumes, but for others (including us here at AP) it occurs even at lower volumes such as during phone calls.

Bootloader unlocking appears to be disabled on some Pixel 2 phones purchased from Google [Update: Fixed]

Many people, like myself, look at Google's phones for one specific reason: they have an easily unlocked bootloader. That means when software support runs dry, or you get the itch to root/ROM, you can modify things without having to compound any potential security concerns with additional issues like exploits or undocumented software. If that's your motivation too, this news could be a small concern. Some Pixel 2s purchased directly from Google seem to have locked-down bootloaders.

Pixel 2's muted mic issue may be fixed by blowing into the bottom speaker Nintendo-style

Half the utility of a smartphone is obvious from its very name. At a minimum, it should be able to make calls, which requires a working mic and speaker. For some, half of that simple equation is missing when it comes to the Pixel 2 and its microphone. When making calls, it just doesn't work. The current workaround is straight out of an NES-equipped childhood: blow into it.

Some Pixel XL owners are having issues installing the October OTA, Google is looking into it

This October's update isn't just about security patches, it also has some much-needed Bluetooth fixes. Unfortunately, some of us are having trouble actually installing this latest OTA. The difficulty seems to fall into two basic categories: those who haven't yet unenrolled from the beta and can't see the update, and those who can see the update but can't install it. The former is an easy fix (just exit the beta), but for those of us in the latter camp, Google is looking into it.

Motorola's Z2 Force may also have the so-called "jelly effect" popularized by the OnePlus 5

It seems like Motorola's latest just can't catch a break. Following the unfortunate news about the hardiness of the ShatterSheild display, it turns out there may be another problem with the screen. The Moto Z2 Force may also suffer from the "jelly" effect which results in a slight distortion of the screen on certain animations.

[You jelly?] OnePlus acknowledges scrolling "jelly" effect on OnePlus 5 screen, says it's normal

OnePlus has finally made a statement about the reported "jelly" display issues. We reached out to them yesterday about the problem, and today we received a response from the company. Unfortunately for any users suffering from the strange display distortion, OnePlus has stated that the effect is apparently "natural and there's no variance in screens between devices."

Google Voice notifications are broken for some, but Google is on the case

If you haven't been reliably receiving notifications for messages in Google Voice, you may not be alone. Some users at Google's Product Forums have been reporting that notifications from Google Voice don't always appear, and often don't show up until the app is opened and refreshed. Thankfully it seems that Google is on the case. If indicators for events like messages or voicemails in Google Voice do not show up in your notifications, perhaps it's worth taking a look at the threads over on Google's forums.
