Android 8.1 Oreo rolling out to the Amazon Prime and retail Moto X4

Amazon's Prime Edition phones don't have ads anymore, but there is some Amazon bloat that can affect updates. However, Amazon and Moto have managed to keep the retail and Prime versions in sync. About a month after the Android 8.1 update hit the Android One Moto X4, the Amazon and retail versions are getting the OTA (version OPW28.2).

Amazon is refunding Prime Exclusive phone ad removal fees


Amazon announced last week that it was removing the lock screen ads from its Prime Exclusive phones, but it was less keen to tell everyone it was also raising the price by $20. Amazon is at least getting one part of this transition right. It's notifying those who paid to remove those ads they'll get a refund.

Amazon's newest Prime Exclusive phone is the Moto X4 for $329

The Moto X4 is Motorola's latest kind-of-budget phone, which despite the name, bears no resemblance to the Moto X of past years. Its availability in the United States is somewhat limited, with Motorola saying it will sell the phone unlocked on its website, and Project Fi offering an Android One version. In a few hours, there will be another way to buy the X4 - from Amazon.
