Pokémon Go will soon be able to reward players for distance walked when the app is closed

Pokémon Go will soon be able to reward players for distance walked when the app is closed

Walking is a big part of Pokémon Go; you have to walk not only to find monsters to catch, but also to hatch the eggs that are often the easiest way to get your hands on some of the rarer critters in the game. You have to have the app open for it to log your distance traveled, though, which is kind of a pain — but that's changing soon.

Pokemon Quest for Android is now available on the Play Store

After the immense popularity of Pokemon Go, it's no surprise that the next game in the 22-year-old series has been hotly anticipated. Already out for Nintendo Switch, Pokemon Quest has now been released on Android (and iOS), and it's free to install. As with many games of this type, monetization is handled via in-app purchases.

Pokémon Quest is available for pre-registration on the Google Play Store

Pokémon Quest is available for pre-registration on the Google Play Store

Pokémon Quest was recently announced at E3 and was also released for the Nintendo Switch on the same day. The blocky design, touch-friendly UI, and casual collection gameplay signify that it's best suited as a mobile game, but alas it wasn't released for Android or iOS. Mobile users were given a tentative "June" release date. Well, I have some good news; not only is Pokémon Quest supposedly releasing on mobile on June 28th, but you can also pre-register for a release announcement on the Play Store right now.

Two years on, Pokémon GO finally gets trading, ways to interact with friends in-game

Two years on, Pokémon GO finally gets trading, ways to interact with friends in-game

When Pokémon GO first launched almost two years ago, people downloaded the game in droves. It was arguably the first game whose gameplay relied heavily on interacting with the real world, enabling players to explore new places and capturing Pokémon through an AR lens. However, for all its emphasis on getting players off the couch and exploring the world together, Pokémon GO never truly supported any way for players to interact with one another — no kind of in-game chat exists, and trading, one of the most central parts in the original game series, has never received more that a passing hint or mention from Niantic.

Pokémon Quest is bringing its blocky action to Android in late June

Pokémon Quest is bringing its blocky action to Android in late June

Last night The Pokémon Company held a press conference that announced a couple of new Pokémon games. Much of it had very little to do with Android short of a Poké Ball Plus accessory for Pokémon Go and an ambiguous release date for Pokémon Quest on mobile. Sure, the game is available right now on the Nintendo Switch, but all of us Android users will have to wait until late June to get our hands on it. For the most part it looks like a very accessible free-to-play voxel game that includes an auto-battle system and a bunch of Pokémon collecting.

You can finally customize your Nintendo Switch without any damage [Sponsored Post]

Judging by the number of views on every AP article about Mario or Pokemon, it's easy to tell that there are a TON of Nintendo fans amongst AP's readership. It's also a safe bet that a lot of you own a Nintendo Switch.

One of the best things about the Switch is that it's the first truly go-anywhere console. You can toss it in your backpack, gym bag, or even your sweatpants pocket and take it with you wherever you go. The only downside is that beyond the safe confines of your home, there are lots of things that can scratch up the finish of your beautiful device.

[Update: Three new Gen II Legendaries, and Exclusive Raid changes] Pokémon GO now has Mewtwo, via new invite-only Exclusive Raid Battles

It wasn't too long ago that Niantic introduced a new mechanic to Pokemon GO in the form of Raid Battles. It was via this raid mechanism that they later gave us Legendary Pokémon, but there were some noteworthy omissions. At least one of those has now been rectified, as the legendary Pokémon Mewtwo has been added to the game via a new invite-only Exclusive Raid Battle system.

Legendary Pokémon are coming to Pokémon GO via the new Raid Battle system

Legendary Pokémon are coming to Pokémon GO via the new Raid Battle system

Pokémon GO launched just over a year ago, and instantly became a cultural phenomenon. Its popularity has waned since then, but there's still a dedicated player base. Those still venturing out to play Pokémon GO will soon be able to capture legendary Pokémon, which have been conspicuously absent since launch.

A new accessory in Japan will allow Pokémon Go Plus users to wear it like a ring

A new accessory in Japan will allow Pokémon Go Plus users to wear it like a ring

Last year we saw the release of a wearable armband for Pokémon Go that not only allowed you to catch Pokémon but also allowed interaction with Pokéstops, all without taking your phone out of your pocket. This wearable is known as the Pokémon Go Plus. Well, it would appear that Japan is getting a new Pokémon Go Plus accessory that allows you to wear the device on your finger instead of on your arm. That's right, there's a new ring attachment available for the Pokémon Go Plus in Japan.
