Stitcher Radio Podcast Manager Updated With Variable Speed Playback (But Only For Marshmallow) And Bug Fixes

Stitcher Radio Podcast Manager Updated With Variable Speed Playback (But Only For Marshmallow) And Bug Fixes

If you listen to a lot of podcasts, you probably spend at least ten hours or more every week getting through them. A common feature of podcast playback tools is the option to speed up playback, allowing at least some users to get through these almost entirely spoken-word programs more quickly. Popular Android podcast manager Stitcher now includes this option... but oddly, only for devices running Android 6.0 or later. The tool can speed up playback to 1.25x, 1.5x, or 2x (which is insanely fast). It can also slow playback by half.

Other changes in this version (3.5.5 on my Nexus 6) are mostly bug fixes, notably including a major bug for Wi-Fi detection on Marshmallow phones and tablets.

[Update: Winners] We Have 50 Codes For Podcast Addict To Give Away

[Update: Winners] We Have 50 Codes For Podcast Addict To Give Away

You know what's cool? Podcasts are cool. They've been around for what seems like an eternity now, and they're still just as relevant as ever — maybe even more. And in case you were wondering, the Android Police Podcast might actually be the coolest podcast of all time. It's so good.

To add to the cool factor here, there are also a ton of podcast apps to choose from. Some suck, others do not. If you'd like to have one that does not suck (which I highly recommend), then Podcast Addict is probably a good one to go with.

It's loaded with a slew of awesome features:

  •  Subscribe to any existing audio/video podcast (300K+ podcasts available)
  •  Subscribe to YouTube channels/playlists, RSS news feeds and listen to Radio stations live streams
  •  Advanced player features: loop mode, repeat mode, sleep timer, etc.

Pocket Casts Update Adds Podcast And Playlist Browsing From Android Wear

Pocket Casts Update Adds Podcast And Playlist Browsing From Android Wear

In its previous update, Pocket Casts added an Android Wear companion app that allowed you to browse your Up Next list of podcasts and pick an episode to play. It worked even when Pocket Casts wasn't launched on your phone and without requiring the notification first, which was awesome if you needed to start playback from your watch without having to dig your phone out of your pocket/purse. The whole idea though relied on you having already populated your playback queue because you couldn't browse your entire library from the watch. That's changing with this new update.

In version 5.1.3, Pocket Casts revamped its notification actions, adding a few screens that you can swipe to when an episode is playing.

BeyondPod's Big 4.0 Revamp Buffers To The Play Store, Meets A Stream Of Criticism

BeyondPod's Big 4.0 Revamp Buffers To The Play Store, Meets A Stream Of Criticism

Podcast lovers take their listening hobby seriously. Just ask me. I got into the habit about 18 months ago and it has since become a bit of a daily addiction. Whether I'm driving, walking, taking care of chores, shopping, or doing any other menial activity, there's a set of buds in my ears and one of dozens of podcasts playing through. It makes for great entertainment and it can also be very educational. In terms of apps, I'm firmly rooted in the PocketCasts clan. But we're not here to talk about that app, so let's switch the channel to BeyondPod.

Version 4.0 of BeyondPod that has been in beta under the EVO tag for a couple of months just made it into the Play Store.
