[Update: Another pic, this time without a case] Pixel 2 XL leaks in new photo, confirms redesigned launcher and dual speakers

Google is unveiling the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL in just two short days, but us tech enthusiasts are an impatient bunch. [Update: 14.2 bugfix and download] Magisk beta v14.1 roots the Pixels and survives OTA

Hot off his recent vacation, Magisk developer topjohnwu has released a beta version of Magisk (v14.1) that works with the Pixel phones. We've even installed it on one of our own Pixel XLs and, well, it works. This is probably one of the oldest requests users have had for Magisk, and now it's here. Best of all, it works without a custom recovery, and (allegedly) survives OTA.

Android 8.0 Oreo settings app crashes for some when viewing Wi-Fi or mobile data usage

Picture the scene: you're near your monthly data allowance and you want to check your usage to see what you should turn off to avoid some astronomical overuse charges. We've all been there. Android 8.0 has started to roll out to Nexus and Pixel devices, but not everyone is happy with the update. Google added YouTube HDR support to the Pixels entirely in software

A few smartphones and tablets have launched with support for HDR video, but the Google Pixel and Pixel XL were not among them. Google enabled HDR playback in YouTube recently and apparently didn't like that its own phones were going to be left out of the fun. We were surprised to see the Pixels show up on the supported list, so we asked Google what was going on. It turns out the Pixels are doing YouTube HDR in software.
