Google has been fixing a "high priority" invalid pin and pattern bug on the Pixel C for a year and a half

Some things really kill your confidence in Google's ability to fix bugs and make sure you can actually use the devices you have bought with your hard-earned cash. Case in point: there's a bug in the pin and pattern security locks on the Pixel C that the Google team has deemed "high priority" but that hasn't been fixed since January 2016. That's almost a year and a half, if you're counting.

The bug can be described like this: users who have set up a pin or pattern keep getting the message that their pin/pattern is wrong when trying to unlock their device.

Android 7.1.2 appears to be rolling out now to Nexus Player and Pixel C

Android O is expected later this year, but there's still (at least) one more update to Android 7.1. Google released the first 7.1.2 Beta back in January, followed by a second beta in March. We've now received multiple reports of 7.1.2 being pushed to users outside the beta program.

Android O Developer Preview Supports Nexus 5X and 6P, Nexus Player, Pixel and Pixel XL, and Pixel C

As the world turns, so too does the cycle of Android updates. The first part of 2017's version bump, known only as Android O for the time being, was just announced. And just like the last two years, developer preview versions will be available for some of the latest officially supported Google hardware. This year that list includes the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Pixel, and Pixel XL phones, the Pixel C tablet, and the Nexus Player Android TV set-top box. You can download the new images here.

Pixel C gets the Pixel Launcher, Pixel-style nav buttons, and more in 7.1.2 beta 2 [APK Download]

The Pixel C is still the flagship Android tablet from Google, even though it's more than a year old now. Although, it wasn't really living up to its name. Despite all the new things happening with the Pixel brand, the Pixel C didn't even have the Pixel Launcher. That changes with the new 7.1.2 beta, which adds the Pixel Launcher and Pixel-style nav buttons.

[Deal Alert] Save $100 on the 64GB Pixel C and $50 on the Pixel C Keyboard from the Google Store

Android tablets are in a bit of a lull right now, so I understand if you think this may not be the perfect time to invest in a Pixel C. But if you do want a new Android tablet, maybe for yourself or as a Christmas gift for someone, then the Pixel C should be a top contender. It runs Android 7.0 Nougat, has a 10.2" 2560 x 1800 display, 3GB of RAM, 32GB or 64GB of storage, and the Tegra X1 may not be the hottest processor on the bloc, but it does the job fine enough. The big deterrent however, is probably the hefty price tag, but that is changing for the next couple of weeks.

Android 7.1 developer preview 2 images are live for the Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, and Pixel C [Update: Nexus 9]

We got some hints earlier that the second Android 7.1.1 developer preview was on the verge of rolling out today, and sure enough, here it is. System images are live for manual installation (build NPF26F and NPF26H). There won't be any OTAs at this time, though. Just like last time, the list of supported devices is small—smaller than we were expecting, in fact.
