Google Stadia cloud gaming debuts with $130 Founder’s Edition this November, free tier coming in 2020

Earlier this year, Google brought cloud gaming to the fore with the announcement of Stadia, its streaming platform that would bring 4K HDR visuals at 60 frames per second with very low latency to almost anything with a screen on it. The expectations have been set up, now we have a growing lineup of games to look forward to and a way to get early access to Stadia in November, but only if you're up to pay a pretty penny.

Downloads for Android Q Beta 4 are now live, including the Pixel 3a and 3a XL

Android Q Beta 4 has just been released, and while those of us in the Beta Program wait for OTAs to roll out via the more traditional (and slower) means, images for manual flashing are also available — though they don't get updates. If you're chomping at the bit to test out Beta 4, you can pull them down now.

[Update: Starting to roll out] Pixel updates for June are up, 3a and 3a XL get their first monthly security patches

It's the first Monday of a new month, and that means Google's Pixels are getting their regular security patches. Downloads for both full factory images and sideloadable OTAs are up and available while we wait for the update to roll out via the more traditional means — which usually takes at least an hour or two. Pixel functional patches for this month's update include a few fixes, as well as improved hotword detection for the "Ok Google" command. The Pixel 3a also joins its forebears in picking up its first ever monthly security updates.

Google wants to sell you a phone. And a speaker. And a thermostat. Maybe a stick for your TV, too. Not convinced? Google Fi's customer service is a complete disaster - and the proof is piling up

Google Fi's customer service problems are numerous and well-documented. The carrier has been accused of billing customers for using Wi-Fi, blacklisting IMEIs, locking customers out of their Google accounts, and charging them the full price after promotions (causing plenty of overdraft fees in the process). At this point, Fi is more associated with bottom-barrel customer service than the aggressive, on-demand pricing it was once known for. Today we have another horror story involving a two-month-long runaround and $70 in upgrade fees for a phone the company admits was never delivered.

Android Q Beta 3 seems to be breaking RCS messaging for some

It's not unusual for beta software to come with quirks, and we've recently discovered yet another in Android Q Beta 3: RCS messaging functionality previously present in Messages on Pixel 3 phones seems to have disappeared. RCS-enabled conversations have reverted to SMS, and the Chat features option has vanished from the app's settings.

T-Mobile won't support RCS messaging on the Pixel 3 or 3a

The text messages we all used over the years are archaic and clunky, but RCS promises to modernize messaging with features like read receipts and file transfers. However, implementing RCS through the carriers has been an utter mess. Case in point: T-Mobile says the new Pixel 3a and 3a XL won't have RCS support on its network. We can safely assume the existing Pixel 3 and 3 XL (also now available from T-Mobile) will be the same.

Android Q Beta 3 brings classic navigation buttons to the Pixel 3

Google has been reworking navigation on Android for a few years. Android 9 Pie launched with gesture navigation, and to help speed along adoption, Google didn't officially allow Pixel 3 owners to switch back to the original three-button navigation scheme. However, Beta 3 of Android Q comes with a nice surprise — the original buttons are back.
