Phones are boring, so now we're making up conspiracy theories about them

The Pixel 3 XL may be the most reliably leaked smartphone of 2018. It's been seen on a train, it's been accidentally left in a car, appeared in about a half dozen hotels and airports, and it's even been reviewed by a Russian blog that managed to get one of a handful of stolen units that showed up in Ukraine. So much has leaked about the phone that essentially all of that wonderful pre-launch mystery has been sapped, and a sobering (if predictable) reality has set in: Google's next phone is not really all that different from any other phone released in 2018.

[Update: Maybe not] The Pixel 3 will only have gesture navigation, with no option for standard nav buttons

As we all know by now, Google's implementation of gesture navigation is pretty lackluster. Given that it still takes up the same amount of space as the regular nav bar, it doesn't have any real benefits and just makes things confusing. You'll probably be disappointed to hear that the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL will ship with gesture navigation, and there won't be an option to use the standard three-button layout that's been part of Android for years.

Brandon Lee of This is Tech Today—who also makes videos for Android Police—has spotted an ad posted by Google on its own Famebit site that implies the phone is going to be formally revealed on or by October 4th.

Purported Google Pixel 3 XL leaks in 'Clearly White'

For the last two years, the Pixel line has been released in mid-to-late October. We're less than three months away from that at this point, so it makes sense that we're starting to see some more Pixel 3 leaks. This time around, an XDA Forums member has posted some photos of an alleged 'Clearly White' Pixel 3 XL, and they match what we've seen thus far.
