Paramount+ crashes its streaming platform into Showtime in latest merger no one asked for
The new Paramount+ with Showtime starts fighting with Peacock for your streaming scraps tomorrow
Is it too much to ask for a little consistency from our streaming services? They were supposed to be this grand replacement for cable, but every time we look, it feels like they're dropping programming, or just outright merging with each other, giving us less consumer choice in the progress. HBO Max is now Max since merging with Discovery, and now we're checking out two other once-distinct platforms that are getting in a similar boat, as Paramount+ and Showtime merge — and make viewers pay more for both.
Paramount+ ascends new heights with price hike thanks to Showtime merger
From optional bundle to all-inclusive this summer
We suspect there are a fair number of Star Trek fans in the Android Police readership, so we're writing about this move in the streaming wars just to keep you one step ahead. After all, Paramount Global may have made less money this year than last (PDF), but it's fared pretty well in an adversarial economy with an influx of 9.9 million new subscribers to Paramount+, bringing its total tally to almost 56 million — beating Disney-owned Hulu by 10 million customers. But, as you'd suspect with tightening margins and major growth, the company is looking to capitalize by simultaneously offering more to viewers while asking them to pay more for it.
Paramount Plus: 4 new shows you won't want to miss this June
Evil, Players, Yellowjackets, and even South Park are headed to Paramount+ this June
Paramount+ is certainly one of the newer streaming services to hit the market, having just rebranded from CBS All Access less than a year ago. Since then, the budding streaming service has done pretty well for itself, amassing almost 33 million paid subscribers. This puts it well behind the likes of Netflix and Disney+, but dwarfs other newer options like Peacock. All that to say that Paramount+ is definitely worth checking out, particularly if you're a fan of shows and movies from CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, or Nickelodeon.
T-Mobile has recently been all about offering its customers cool perks, either physical ones through T-Mobile Tuesdays or virtual perks like free Apple TV+ or Netflix. The company will even pay off your phone if you're on another carrier. This new perk, though, might be especially interesting if you like watching free movies and TV series, as T-Mobile has announced it will be offering a whole year of Paramount+.
Paramount+ streaming plans get simpler and cheaper on June 7th
A new $5 tier will include commercials, but drop the live CBS feed
Paramount+, nee CBS All Access, is your one-stop shop for streaming shows like Star Trek, Nickelodeon, and all those cop shows your parents love to wait for on network TV. Though the service launched back in March, its plan options were a bit confusing. Starting next week, they'll be simpler, and at least one will be cheaper ... though you'll lose access to your local CBS station.
We've already seen one new streaming service launch this year, but now we're already hearing about another "new" one. Last year saw the announcement that ViacomCBS was preparing to re-brand and expand All Access as Paramount+, and now we know more about when to expect the streaming service to show up in different areas around the world.
CBS All Access finally supports user profiles, sparing you from your roommate's bad taste
There are special profiles for kids with parental controls, too
There are a lot of streaming services out there these days. Each of them have different pros and cons, but one of the most universal features is being able to create multiple user profiles for different individuals. Now it looks like CBS has finally added this seemingly basic ability for All Access members using its mobile apps.
In case you were wondering if a rebrand was the only thing Google was doing to set itself up as a content provider, rest easy. Google's still working at signing those content deals. Today's deal is with Paramount. You may remember Paramount as the company that likes to throw stars at you while you're flying over a mountain. This new content deal brings 500 movies to the Play Store, and surprise! They don't all suck!
