Note: The following post was written by our sponsor, StackSocial.

Last year, Google released their latest OS Android Oreo. As with any constantly updating interface, developers building apps for the Android O environment need to be fully up to speed on all the new features and changes it represents.

This crash course aims to train complete noobs in the latest release of the Android platform. You’ll get lifetime access to over 35 hours of content. So you can walk through the process of creating real apps, like Uber and Twitter, as often as you want. All the lessons are project-based, too.

[Update: Galaxy S8+ too] AT&T begins rolling out Oreo for the Galaxy S8

The Galaxy S9 is shipping, so it's about time that Samsung's 2017 flagship phones got Oreo, don't you think? So far, T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon have all started pushing updates. Today is AT&T's turn. The OTA is hitting devices as we speak, so that's the last of the big four.

Huawei Mate 10 Pro (U.S.) second opinion: A great phone that probably won't make it

Huawei has had a tough time of things in 2018, getting the rug pulled out from under it just before it launched the U.S. version of its flagship Mate 10 Pro on AT&T. The blows just kept coming with Verizon pulling out of a deal, followed by "security warnings" from some of the American government security agencies. While all of the political mess is somewhat fun to look back at and is good for a nice chuckle or two, my focus here is on the phone itself, Huawei's centerpiece.

LG V30 on Sprint gets Android 8.0 Oreo

LG has released a number of V30 variants over the past few months, with some of them running Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box (like the V30S ThinQ). Unfortunately, the company has been slow to update the Nougat-powered V30 and V30+, at least outside of South Korea. The Verizon V30 received Android 8.0 earlier this month, and now the Sprint model is next.

Android 8.0 Oreo update released for Sprint Galaxy S8 and S8+

Hot on the heels of Big Red and John Legere and co, Sprint is now pushing the Android 8.0 Oreo / Samsung Experience 9.0 update to its versions of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. That makes it the third major US carrier to do so, leaving only AT&T (and US Cellular, if you count that).

T-Mobile Galaxy S8/S8+ now receiving Android 8.0 Oreo update

Verizon models of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ began receiving their Android 8.0 Oreo updates two days ago, and now it's the T-Mobile models' turn. Samsung Experience 9.0 doesn't make any huge changes, at least to the end user, but it does add a few tweaks here and there and smooth the software out a bit.

Android 8.0 Oreo rolling out to Galaxy Note8

Samsung began rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo for the Galaxy S8 and S8+ in early February (only to hit pause for about a week to fix random reboots), and Verizon became the first US carrier to roll out Oreo to those devices a couple days ago. Now there's word that Oreo is rolling out to Galaxy Note8 users in France and possibly some other countries.

Xiaomi releases Oreo kernel source code for the Mi A1

Xiaomi promised that the Mi A1 would receive Oreo by the end of 2017, and the company hit a buzzer-beater by rolling out Android 8.0 to the Android One device on December 30th. But the kernel source code was nowhere to be found, a violation of the GNU General Public License, version 2 (GPLv2), and an affront to the development and enthusiast community. It's about two-and-a-half months late, but Xiaomi has finally released the Android 8.0 Oreo source code for the Mi A1.

The Alcatel 1X with Android Go is coming to the US for under $100

It's been almost a year since Google unveiled Android Go, now technically known as Android Oreo (Go Edition), but devices you can actually buy are few and far between. In fact, only ZTE has committed to launching a Go device in the US. Now, Alcatel is announcing plans to launch the 1X in the US, too. The phone was shown off at MWC a few weeks ago. The specs are modest, but it'll cost under $100.

Android 8.0 Oreo update now rolling out to Verizon Galaxy S8 and S8+

Less than a week ago, Verizon became the first US carrier to push Android 8.0 Oreo to the LG V30. Defying its stereotype as the slowest carrier for updates yet again, Big Red has become the first one in the US to release 8.0 Oreo to the Galaxy S8 and S8+.
