OnePlus 6 and 6T receive another Android 10 Open Beta after tricky stable rollout

OnePlus usually provides its handsets with timely Android updates, though with the OnePlus 6 and 6T, it slipped up quite a bit. The devices got a stable Android 10 version in November, but the software turned out to be buggy, so OnePlus had to stop the rollout and started slowly pushing out a hotfix  — effectively leaving a majority of users on a four-month-old security patch level. It looks like the company is continuing to fix bugs and might be readying another stable point release soon as it has just launched Android 10 Open Beta 3 for the phones.

At the end of October, we learned that EVE Echoes would enter into an open beta phase in December, and CCP Games has indeed kept its word since EVE Echoes has officially entered into this testing phase today in select regions. OnePlus shares OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro Open Beta 4 details

OnePlus' regular updates come fast enough, but its Open Betas land with an almost staccato pace. OnePlus promises to stop killing apps in the background

OnePlus just published a recap of its second "Open Ears Forum" from all the way back in May. At the event, it gathered a handful of developers and fans central to the OnePlus community to solicit their feedback. Four months later, the company has revealed a set of changes influenced by that feedback, including more timely kernel sources for Open Betas and a new bounty program for reporting vulnerabilities. Most importantly for customers, though, OnePlus has promised to finally fix how aggressive its software is at killing apps in the background.

OnePlus releases Android 10 Open Betas for 7 and 7 Pro

Although it isn't quite as on-the-ball as Essential, OnePlus is also pushing out Android 10 to the OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7, but only in its Open Beta program. OnePlus 6 and 6T pick up DC dimming in Oxygen OS Open Beta 23

The OnePlus 6 and 6T just picked up a new Open Beta release, and while the changelog is pretty lean, there is one slick new feature coming to the pair of phones: DC dimming. In case you aren't aware, the AMOLED display in the phones used something called PWM (pulse-width modulation) to control brightness, which quickly flickers it on and off faster than we can see to approximate different brightness levels. If you're among those with a sensitivity to PWM, this is great news.
