You can now apply for the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro closed beta program

Each phone from OnePlus has three software tracks: the stable public builds that most people use, the experimental Open Betas, and finally the bleeding-edge Closed Beta program. If you love trying features before everyone else (and possibly running into serious bugs), OnePlus is now taking applications for joining the Closed Betas for the OnePlus 8 series.

OnePlus Camera v5.4.10 beta introduces Quick Share, video capture shortcut, and new filters (APK Download)

The latest OnePlus Camera beta (version 5.4.10) is all about speed. Faster sharing, fast burst mode photos, and faster video capture are among the new features, as well as a few additional filters that make use of the color filter camera on the OnePlus 8 Pro. First available with the Android 11 Beta on that phone and the regular OnePlus 8, it also works on those phones running Android 10 if you sideload the app.

The 5 worst things about the OnePlus 8 Pro

The 5 worst things about the OnePlus 8 Pro

The OnePlus 8 Pro is without question a critical success for the company, but its high price and limited availability have stoked the ire of many long-time OnePlus fans. We don't think those are the only issues with this $900 flagship, though: there are definitely areas where the 8 Pro may not satisfy even those who find its cost acceptable. We're going to break down the five things we think make the 8 Pro a less-than-ideal phone (if still a great one).

The 5 best things about the OnePlus 8 Pro

The 5 best things about the OnePlus 8 Pro

The OnePlus 8 Pro is still a lot of phone for the money, even if its high price hasn't gone down well with a large section of the company's fan base. And the new features it adds like rapid wireless charging and proper waterproofing are unarguably big and long-sought improvements that bring OnePlus' new flagship to the level of phones like Samsung's Galaxy S20+, which costs hundreds of dollars more than the 8 Pro. Altogether, we still think there's a lot to like about this $900 phone, and here are the top five, standout features we think make it shine.

OnePlus 8 vs 8 Pro comparison: Which flagship killer is right for you?

OnePlus 8 vs 8 Pro comparison: Which flagship killer is right for you?

OnePlus' newest smartphones are packing many of the latest and greatest parts and features you can find in high-end phones right now,  and the 8 Pro in particular has brought some long-demanded improvements. The 8 Pro, announced several weeks ago, has become the first phone from the company ever to support wireless charging and receive an IP rating — two of the longest-standing downsides to OnePlus smartphones. But as much as these features have satisfied the demand of fans, they've also created a much more noticeable difference between the basic OnePlus 8 and the 8 Pro.

Latest Oxygen OS update re-enables the 'X-ray' color filter camera on Oneplus 8 Pro

Latest Oxygen OS update re-enables the 'X-ray' color filter camera on Oneplus 8 Pro

Turns out, there was a little more to the OxygenOS 10.5.10 update for the 8 Pro than we thought. Although it isn't mentioned in the changelog, we can confirm that the update also re-enables the "X-Ray" color filter infrared camera on the 8 Pro, previously disabled in the 10.5.9 update before it was pulled.

OxygenOS 10.5.10 brings May patch, HEVC recording to OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro

OxygenOS 10.5.10 brings May patch, HEVC recording to OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro

It was a bit strange seeing OnePlus roll out its latest May security patch to the older 6 and 7 series phones before the newer 8 and 8 Pro. About a week after that release, the two 2020 flagships are being bumped to the same security level as part of an OxygenOS update that also brings a (really) lengthy list of fixes and additions.

OnePlus pulls update that disabled the 8 Pro's 'X-ray' camera in Oxygen OS after accidental rollout

OnePlus pulls update that disabled the 8 Pro's 'X-ray' camera in Oxygen OS after accidental rollout

OnePlus initially claimed that the color filter camera and associated Photochrom color mode for the OnePlus 8 Pro, accused of allowing people to see through clothing, would only be disabled in China pending an undefined fix. However, an Oxygen OS update disabling the feature globally was "inadvertently" rolled out. OnePlus has since pulled the update, according to the folks at Oxygen Updater, and a subsequent OTA will re-enable the feature.

OnePlus 8 Pros are so scarce they're now selling for hundreds of dollars above MSRP in the US

OnePlus 8 Pros are so scarce they're now selling for hundreds of dollars above MSRP in the US

When the OnePlus One launched in 2014, it was commonplace in the first months of the phone's availability for second hand models to be sold for over MSRP online. That was due to the phone's notorious (and widely disliked) invite system, which artificially created scarcity in the market to manage OnePlus's supply chain capacity against the demand of consumers for its smartphone. Now, the same has happened to its brand-new phone, the OnePlus 8 Pro.

The 8 Pro launched at $900 in the US, but good luck finding one: the company has been sold out online for weeks, and new stock has been agonizingly slow to appear.
