Samsung's latest foldables launched with One UI 4.1.1, which adds Android 12L to tablets and the Z Fold line, and small optimizations to phones, like a quick gesture to enter split screen mode. The update is already available for several devices, including the S22 series, last year's Flip 3 and Fold 3, and the Galaxy Tab S7 and S8 tablets. Even as we approach the release of One UI 5, Samsung will continue to update more devices with 4.1.1, and we'll keep this page updated as it does so.

Samsung's latest foldables—the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4—run on Android 12L-based One UI 4.1.1. Among other things, they feature a Taskbar that aids multitasking and makes it easier to run multiple apps simultaneously. As rumors had indicated, the Korean giant has now announced that it is bringing One UI 4.1.1 to its previous-gen foldables.

Just in time for some new foldables later this summer

Android 12L sprang out of beta as part of Google's March Feature Drop for Pixels, but we've been waiting to see it come to devices where it might actually make a difference. Designed to improve big-screen experiences with gadgets like tablets and foldables, it seemed like an obvious candidate for Samsung's Galaxy Z-series. We've been waiting for word on when Android 12L will hit the company's devices, and it sounds like we might finally have an answer.

Samsung's foldables are finally getting Smart Widgets, starting with the Galaxy Z Flip3

The June 2022 security patch delivers the best feature from One UI 4.1

One UI 4.1 debuted on the Galaxy S22 series earlier this year and brought plenty of new features to that series and older phones as they were updated. Sadly, one of the best features from the update was absent from devices that didn't belong to the S or Note lineup, including Samsung's foldables. Now that's changing as the June 2022 security patch brings Smart Widgets to the Galaxy Z Flip3.

The tide’s been turning when it comes to the reputation of certain OEM skins, and Samsung’s One UI has plenty of fans considering it the new standard for Android, with good reason – not only is it one of the more feature-rich options out there, but its track record with updates has been most impressive. The first-party apps Samsung bundles in give their Google counterparts a run for their money, too – and they keep getting better with frequent updates. This week we're looking at an update to Samsung's Calendar app that makes events just a little more customizable.

One UI 4 added a feature that was strangely absent from Samsung's Android skin for a long time — icon pack support. Sure, you could download and use custom icons from the Galaxy Store, but most downloads only covered a few major apps, so it wasn't worth the trouble. With One UI 4 finally allowing you to get more fully-featured icon packs from the Play Store, let's take a look at the process of applying them to some of the best Android phones out there.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, A72, and Tab S7+ get the One UI 4.1 update

Complete with the March 2022 security patch

Samsung's efforts to bring One UI 4.1 to its existing devices continue to impress. After the Galaxy S22 introduced us to the software in February, the company announced it would bring One UI 4.1 to Galaxy S, Fold/Flip, and A-series devices beginning in mid-March. Now we're checking out the latest phones to receive updates of their own.

Even more phones are joining the One UI 4.1 list

Samsung has been on a roll with its software update cycle. The company impressed everyone by quickly rolling out Android 12-based One UI 4 to a bunch of its premium and flagship devices months ahead of schedule. Then, following the Galaxy S22's launch with One UI 4.1 in February, the Korean smartphone maker announced earlier this week that the latest version of its skin would be coming to older Galaxy Fold and Flip, S-series, Note, and A-series devices, complete with several new features and changes in tow. After an update started making its way to the Galaxy Z Fold3, Flip3, the Galaxy S21 series in some parts of the world, Samsung is following up with a patch for the Note20

Samsung launched the Galaxy A52s last August, running, at the time, the latest versions of Android and One UI. As part of Samsung's update commitment, the device was bumped to One UI 4 based on Android 12 in January, bringing along plenty of enhancements and new features. Unfortunately, the stable release has been anything but, as the new software is home to many bugs and problems.

With the introduction of Samsung's Galaxy S22 lineup, we also got to meet One UI 4.1, the latest release of its Android software. Shortly after the phones themselves landed, that software update also started to trickle down to its older devices, both high-end and mid-range alike. But while the update for the Galaxy S21 series seems largely identical to what we got on the S22, One UI 4.1 for other phones is apparently missing out on some features — most notably, Smart Widgets are nowhere to be seen.

Android 12 and One UI 4 are coming to the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 and S6 Lite

Guess you can put off upgrading to a new tablet for another year

Tablets might be Google's newest passion project, but it's Samsung that has kept the dream of Android-powered slates alive over the last half-decade. While the Galaxy Tab S8 series is the newest and hottest on the block right now, the Tab S6 and S6 Lite are still great tablets in their own right. If you're the proud owner of Samsung's 2019 flagship slate — it's 2020 younger brother — you're finally getting access to the latest software with a new update.

Samsung was quick to start releasing the Android 12-based One UI 4 update for its phones and tablets last year, beating out lots of other OEMs with their own A12 releases. The company's already followed that up in 2022 with One UI 4.1 arriving alongside the Galaxy S22 series with some minor tweaks and enhancements. Now the Korean smartphone giant is sharing plans for how this new release will come to existing mid-range and flagship Galaxy devices.

Last month, Samsung debuted One UI 4.1 on the Galaxy S22 series with some minor new additions and tweaks. Most of the improvements focused around the camera with features like an improved Pro mode, Night mode portraits, and enhanced Snapchat integration. Luckily for those on older devices, the Korean smartphone maker tends to bring many of the new features of its latest flagship phones to yesteryear's models via a software update. Now, a forum post by a Samsung community moderator has detailed that many of One UI 4.1's camera enhancements are coming to older Galaxy devices.

Android 12 is now landing on all Samsung Galaxy S20 devices in the US

Over three weeks after the Verizon rollout began

Samsung has been aggressive in rolling out One UI 4.0 (and, as such, Android 12) to its phones and the Galaxy S20 series of devices have been no exception. A beta program rolled out in November while the stable, global OTA came just before the new year. Now, it's live for all US-based S20 devices, regardless of carrier.

It's not quite December yet, but that hasn't stopped Samsung from starting to update the first of its devices with the new December 2021 security patch. Kicking things off this week are the Galaxy Z Flip3 and Fold3 running their latest One UI 4 beta.

Samsung has been doing a pretty good job with its rollout of Android 12 updates. One UI 4 has already landed on a handful of Samsung flagship phones, including the Galaxy S21 series, the Note20, and its latest foldables, the Z Flip3 and the Z Fold 3. As 2022 begins, it's now also beginning to arrive on a handful of mid-range devices. The latest One UI 4 updates are now arriving in some regions for the Galaxy A52 5G/4G, Galaxy A52s, S10 Lite, and Exynos S20 FE so that you can start 2022 on the right foot.

Samsung's older foldables are now getting One UI 4

The Galaxy Fold and the Galaxy Z Flip are next in line for some Android 12 love

Samsung got started with its foldable phone lineup in 2019, with the Samsung Galaxy Fold, after showing off its folding display tech for a few years prior. Since then, these phones have significantly matured in terms of durability and features, to the point a foldable phone is now an option average folks can consider. Of course, being among its most expensive phones, they're high on Samsung's list for the ongoing One UI 4 rollout. After its newest foldables began receiving their respective Android 12 updates, the older ones are now next in line.

Android 12 and One UI 4 now coming to Samsung Galaxy S20 FE on US carriers

Complete global rollout is almost upon us

By

It’s been less than a week since the likes of the Galaxy Note20, Z Flip3, and Z Fold3 started seeing Android 12 in the US, as Verizon lead the charge ahead of other carrier and non-carrier units receiving updates themselves. Now the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is next in line, with Android 12 rolling out currently for the phone.

Samsung’s been on a blitz lately to get its latest software on as many devices as possible, and we just saw the flagship Galaxy Note20 and Note20 Ultra pick up One UI 4 based on Android 12 at the tail end of 2021. We first heard reports of it coming to Switzerland, and it finally started hitting the US yesterday. However, just as with the firmware release for the Galaxy Z Flip3 and Galaxy Z Fold3, only Verizon versions of the Note phones were initially seeing update. Now Samsung has begun making it available to even more users, with the software coming to unlocked Note20 and Note20 Ultra units in the US.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 series is getting the January 2022 patch

Just a couple of days after the Pixels

Samsung has come a long way from its TouchWiz days when it was frequently criticized for its slow software rollout speed. The company has managed to set a new benchmark by updating all its recent flagships and mid-range devices to Android 12/One UI 4 in record time and besting its own schedule. However, the Korean smartphone maker is in no mood to slow down and has now released the January 2022 security patch for the Samsung Galaxy S21 series.
