[Update: It's live] YouTube Music will download up to 500 liked songs for offline playback automatically

Google's move from Play Music to YouTube Music is still unresolved — especially since the final transition of libraries and uploaded content between the two still hasn't happened — but the latter is picking up a new feature to help with offline playback. "Smart Downloads," as it's called, will pull down up to 500 songs that you've "liked" via that button, intelligently selecting and downloading them over Wi-Fi for later enjoyment.

PSA: YouTube Music now lets you save specific songs, playlists, or albums for offline listening

Those of you who pay for YouTube Red may know that for a while it's been possible to listen to music on YouTube Music without a connection with the offline mixtape feature. It's not the ideal solution, as it auto-populates based on your listening history. You can remove songs from it, but many users would prefer to choose which songs go on the list, too. At some point recently, the option to save specific songs to an offline playlist was added to the app, something which we thought you might like to know about.

YouTube Music v1.38 now allows removing tracks from offline mixtape, promises landscape orientation [APK Download]

If you're a regular user of the dedicated YouTube Music app, you're probably accustomed to updates that add fairly non-obvious changes. The latest update includes a hidden gem that makes the offline mixtape feature considerably more useful. According to an official changelog posted late last night, we should also see screen rotation, but it seems that didn't actually make it into this release. As usual, there's a download link at the bottom so you can skip Google's staged rollout.
