SHIELD Android TV Update 3.2 Will Add A Built-In Plex Media Server And Remote File Access, Among Other Improvements

The SHIELD TV is the best Android TV device around, even if its competition isn't up to much. With NVIDIA's Tegra X1 architecture and an available 500GB hard drive on the Pro model, one might wonder why something like the fan-favorite Plex software wasn't available before. (Plex was previously installed on the SHIELD, but only as a client for streaming media from another server.) Well soon enough it will be: NVIDIA and Plex announced that the next update to the SHIELD firmware will include a built-in Plex media server.

BBC And NVIDIA Release An iPlayer App Exclusively For SHIELD Android TV Owners In The UK

iPlayer is a treat from the BBC to its viewers in the UK. The broadcasting network produces content, and it lets locals view them from the comfort of their mobile devices. Think of it as the relationship seemingly every other popular Internet streaming service has with the US, at least initially.

Now folks living on that small little island across the pond can also stream content to their Android TV, as long as it's a SHIELD box. NVIDIA has made an app, with the BBC's permission, exclusively for SHIELD Android TV.

Yup, it's an app that you can only use in a certain country on a particular device.

BRAWL Brings A Twisted 'Adults Only' Take On Bomberman To The SHIELD Tablet And SHIELD Android TV

Remember Bomberman? You know, that cute little maze-based puzzle game that got infinitely more fun when you played it with friends? Right, well imagine a Bomberman game... set in a schlocky slasher movie. That's basically BRAWL, the latest console pilgrim to come exclusively to NVIDIA'S SHIELD Tablet and SHIELD Android TV. It's also notably the first Android game we've seen on the Play Store with an "Adults only" 18+ ESRB rating, though that might be a mistake - the game's trailer (which looks like it's taken from the PS4 version) brands it with the slightly less salacious M rating.

In BRAWL, you take control of one of eight characters that seem to have popped out of a Halloween party sponsored by Hot Topic.

The Latest SHIELD Android TV Update Adds 4K Support For Photos & Videos App, Better GameStream Performance, And More

NVIDIA's SHIELD Android TV box has only been available for a few weeks, and it's already getting its over-the-air update. Notably, software build 1.2 enables 4K output in Google's Photos & Videos app, provided of course that you have a 4K TV to view them on. According to the changelog it also improves streaming performance for both Netflix and Google Play Movies.
