Out with the old, in with the new: LineageOS cut support for Android 9 Pie earlier this year, and to make up for the loss, the open-source project has just released version 18.1 based on Android 11. It comes with official support for about 60 phones and tablets.

LineageOS is the most popular custom ROM around, bringing new Android updates to abandoned phones, and a stock-like experience (with or without Google software) to newer devices. The last time we covered the project, it added support for a handful of phones from Huawei, Sony, Xiaomi, and OnePlus. Since then, many more devices have made their way to the official roster.

Google's been working on a call recording feature for its Phone app for some time, and it looks like the wait is almost over. As previously anticipated, the feature has started rolling out in India, seemingly beginning with Nokia's Android One phones, according to an announcement from the company today.

Quick to promise software upgrades when Android 10 was announced, HMD Global has since revised its update roadmap for its Nokia smartphones with more of them expected to make the jump than initially claimed last fall.

Earlier this week, Nokia held its anticipated Nokia Mobile Live event in Cairo, Egypt to discuss its hardware and software efforts for the immediate future. In addition to unveiling the new Nokia 2.3 smartphone, the once-prolific phone manufacturer officially released Android 10 for the 9 PureView and provided an update on the OS roadmap for its newest devices.

I love flagship phones, but I'm always a little concerned when I take one with me, say, kayaking, or to a concert. Summertime is full of such potentially phone-ruining events, so if you're worried about the safety of your thousand-dollar pocket computer, consider grabbing one of these cheapo alternatives as a backup.

The workweek is half over, so why not treat yourself with some discounted gadgets? We've got good deals on a nice, big Chromebook, a high-quality budget Nokia phone, and a whole bunch of charging accessories you can use to keep 'em topped up.

We see too many good deals to let you know about them all in real time, so in posts like these, we round up the ones that slipped through the cracks. Over the past few days, we've seen a lot of solid deals that didn't get their own posts, from budget phones and tablets to assorted smart home gadgets.

Slowly but surely, HMD Global has been rolling out Android 9 Pie to its Nokia-branded phones. The Nokia 7 Plus, 6.1, 6.1 Plus, 5.1, 5.1 Plus, 8, and 8 Sirocco have all received Pie by now. If your Nokia device still doesn't have Pie, don't fret — HMD has laid out its update timeline for all remaining phones.

It's OK to admit it — you messed up. You thought we were still in the middle of November or something, and that you had weeks left to do your holiday shopping. Well, after you consult with your neurologist about these concerning lost-time events, you can still scramble to pick up a few last-minute holiday deals, with plenty of offers still available on our favorite mobile tech.

The Nokia 6.1 is among our favorite budget phones — you only need to read our review to know how much we enjoyed it, even if it still has a few drawbacks. Its price has been steadily trending downwards over the last few months, from $270 to $230, then $199, and finally $180 as part of the Black Friday festivities. That precipitous drop in price makes for a savings of $50 from this time last month, making the phone the cheapest it has ever been by a large margin.

HMD Global has been responsible for some of the best budget phones of the last two years, and the Nokia 6.1 is no exception. Right now, you can get (arguably) the best cheap phone of the year for just 9.99 on Amazon, almost $70 less than $269 normal price.Since it's an Android One device, you get platform updates guaranteed for two years along with a clean UI and no bloatware. The Nokia 6.1 features a 5.5" FHD IPS LCD display and is powered by a Snapdragon 630 chip. There's a 16MP camera on the back and an 8MP sensor on the front. The model on offer in this deal is black with copper with accents, and it comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. If that's not enough, you can always add a cheap microSD card for more space. We've previously seen the Nokia 6.1 for as low as $229 — so this represents a further saving of $30 and makes it even easier to recommend, especially now that Android 9 Pie is rolling out to it.Source: Amazon

Android One devices are rightly expected to get OS updates faster than others, and now the Android 9 Pie final release is ready to go for the Nokia 6.1 — it's starting to roll out to devices today. It's the second Nokia device to get the stable Pie release after the 7 Plus was updated at the end of September.

Nokia confirmed just last week that it would be rolling out the first wave of Android Pie updates to devices this month, beginning with phones running on the Snapdragon 600-series. True to its word, an Android 9 Pie Beta has now arrived for the Nokia 6.1 Plus, along with the October security patch.

Nokia's return to the smartphone market by way of HMD has already made an impact thanks to affordable hardware and clean Android One software. Nokia just announced a new phone today, but it isn't forgetting its older devices. During the event, Nokia confirmed the first wave of Android Pie updates should hit its phones this month.

The Nokia 6.1 is HMD Global's sequel to last year's immensely popular Nokia 6. It's a great phone, as we covered in our review, and now its kernel source code is publicly available for developers to tinker with.

With this year's IFA expo now squarely behind us, it's finally time for a return to some modicum of normalcy. As we shake off the jet lag and catch up with everything else that's been going on, we're taking a look back at some of the best tech deals to surface over the course of the last week. And whether you're in the market for a new phone, some old home-entertainment hardware, or just a few accessories, we've got you covered.

The Nokia 6.1 is the successor to the widely-praised original Nokia 6. A few months after initial availability in China, the phone was released in the United States for $269. It was a great deal then, and it's an even better deal now. The phone is currently $40 off on Amazon, bringing the price down to $229.The Nokia 6.1 has a Snapdragon 630 processor, a 5.5-inch 1080p IPS display, 32GB of storage with microSD support, 3GB RAM, and Android 8.1 Oreo. No update to Android 9 Pie has been announced yet. It's only compatible with GSM networks, so it won't work with Verizon and Sprint. You can buy the Nokia 6.1 from the source link below.Source: Amazon

The budget phone space is certainly filling up with some spectacular options. From the extremely capable Honor 7X to the newly-released Moto G6, buyers strapped for cash have several great phones to choose from. But as much as those devices have impressed us in the last few months, HMD Global's Nokia 6.1 has surpassed all of my expectations for a sub-$300 phone.

HMD Global has announced that the new Nokia 6.1 is available in the U.S. starting on May 6. Yes, you read that name correctly; instead of going with the more traditional "Nokia 6 2018" (as it was formerly known), HMD opted for the point release moniker. Despite this oddity, this phone packs a great value, coming at $269 for some nice specs.Be sure to check out our hands-on of the phone back at MWC, but here's a quick refresher. It features a 5.5" FHD IPS LCD, a Snapdragon 630 SoC, 32GB of storage (expandable via microSD), 3GB of RAM, Zeiss-optimized 16MP rear/8MP front cameras, (a partnership similar to Huawei and Leica), USB-C fast charging, face unlock, and Oreo thanks to Android One. It also sports a solid 6000-series aluminium body and pretty spectacular design. HMD also points out that the Nokia 6.1 comes with "Nokia spatial audio," which supposedly allows for dynamic surround sound capture during video recording.
