FYI: Android 10 supports the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller

Mobile gaming continues to grow in relevance, with significant releases like Fortnite and PUBG being published on smartphones, but many titles have been held back by awkward touchscreen controls. External controller support in Android has worked to address that, giving players more powerful options. It turns out a pretty big one arrived thanks to an AOSP commit this past June, granting Android gamepad mappings for the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.

Mario Kart Tour finally arrives on Android, and it’s easily the worst game in the series

Mario Kart Tour finally arrives on Android, and it’s easily the worst game in the series

At the tail end of August we learned that Mario Kart Tour would land on Android on September 25th, and early this morning, the racer was officially released on the Play Store. Now, the thing to remember is that this is a game that has been delayed more than a few times, with announced dates coming and going, and now that I've played the end product, it's clear why. At its core, Mario Kart Tour is yet another bland gacha game with a famous brand slapped on top, but things get much worse than this, so strap in, because this ride's about to get very bumpy.

Mario Kart Tour is available on the Play Store for pre-registration, official release September 25

It looks like Nintendo wasn't able to keep its promise that Mario Kart Tour would come to Android before the end of the summer, but only by a hair. Nintendo recently announced that Mario Kart Tour will be available on the Play Store on September 25th, two days after the end of summer. It would also appear that the game is now available on the Play Store as a pre-registration listing, most likely to accompany the recently announced launch date. This means we have less than a month to go before Mario Kart Tour officially arrives, though after playing through the last beta, I can't say I'm excited.

Dr. Mario World is available on the Play Store a day early — it may not be perfect, but it's still fun

Back in June Nintendo announced that Dr. Mario World would be coming to Android on July 10th, so of course, the title has arrived a day early on both Android and iOS. It's a free-to-play release, which means you should be able to install it right now to start killing a few viruses, though the rollout doesn't appear to be available to everyone just yet, so you may have to wait a bit before you can jump in.

Mario Kart Tour closed beta is live, and it's already a disappointment

Last month we learned that Nintendo would offer a closed beta test of Mario Kart Tour to select users that applied for access. Well, it looks like I got in, so now that I've had some time to play the beta I figured I'd share my impressions for those that are curious how its development is shaping up.

Nintendo to pull Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing mobile games from Belgian market over loot boxes

Nintendo's Belgium arm tweeted an announced early this morning that the company will be pulling its mobile games Fire Emblem Heroes and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp from the Belgian market on August 27th. Back in April of 2018, Belgium declared that loot boxes are gambling and thus illegal in the country, so it would seem Nintendo has seen the writing on the wall and decided to pull any offending games.

Nintendo encourages its smartphone game development partners to limit revenue, focus on high-quality fun

Nintendo is reportedly encouraging its smartphone game development partners to focus on fun instead of maximum revenue. It would appear that Nintendo sees the smartphone gaming market as a way to increase interest in its properties with the hope that its smartphone customers will find their way to the console market, the company's bread and butter.
