Project Fi launches group plans, Nexus 5X and 6P will continue to be available on Fi

Last month, an APK teardown revealed that Project Fi, Google's wireless network, was preparing to offer group plans. Now group plans are official, and admittedly, the pricing isn't spectacular.

Project Fi already offers $20 a month for Fi Basics, which is unlimited talk and text. Every GB of data is $10, but Fi credits back any data you don't use. Now you can add up to five additional people to your Fi plan, who each pay $15/month for Fi Basics and the same $10 per GB. So by going with a group plan, you're saving $5 per person.

Nexus 5X and 6P removed from Google Store, NVIDIA Shield and VR headsets gone too

To make way for the new products announced at today's event, Google has removed several items from their online store. Most notable is the removal of the Nexus 5X and 6P, Google's smartphone lineup from last year, now replaced by the Pixel devices. Also gone from the virtual shelves is the NVIDIA Shield console, still arguably the best Android TV device on the market. The Mattel View-Master VR Starter Pack and Goggle Tech C1-Glass VR Viewer are both removed as well, now that Daydream is the focus of Google's VR efforts. Finally, the Dell Chromebook 13 is gone.

Video: Six years of Nexus - A Google phone history

As the Pixel phone announcement draws near, it seems that, if not going away entirely, Google's Nexus brand will at the very least be undergoing some major changes. Google intends to heavily market its Pixel phones if the last week is any indicator, meaning there really won't be much room for the Nexus phone program to exist in the same way it has in the last few years. Nexus may live on, but it will undoubtedly be in a capacity different from the more aspirational efforts we've seen Google make with it in devices like the Nexus 6, 5X, and 6P.

Google finally makes the Nexus 6P 7.0 Nougat factory and OTA images available

The title says it all, really—the Nexus 6P finally has a downloadable factory image and OTA, courtesy of Google. This news comes shortly after Vodafone announced that it was halting the Nougat OTA for the 6P due to unnamed issues. Earlier this month, when the September security update came out for Nexus devices, we were both puzzled and disappointed when only the Marshmallow Nexus 6P build received the security update, but both the image and OTA are finally here.

Android 7.0 Nougat is rolling out to Nexus devices starting today

Today is the day we've all been waiting for since March when Google unexpectedly dropped the Android N developer preview on us. Android 7.0 Nougat, as it's now known, is officially done and rolling out to Nexus devices, the Pixel C, and the General Mobile 4G. There aren't any big surprises here—the final build is virtually identical to the last developer preview, but it should be more stable and it'll be on your phone or tablet very soon.

Canadian carrier Telus says Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P Nougat updates coming August 22nd

At this point we're just waiting for Google to release Android 7.0 (and the new Nexus devices that come with it) to the masses. The company never gives exact dates for this kind of thing, though a vague "fall" pattern generally leads us to expect new Android hardware and software sometime between August and October. According to the official support forum for Telus, an exclusively Canadian cell carrier, Nougat updates will be coming in less than a week.
