The Factory images and OTA ZIPs for July 2016 are now available for the full line of supported Nexus hardware (still waiting for the Pixel C). They're a little behind schedule this month, possibly because it was Independence Day in the United States on Monday, or possibly to leave time for some late-breaking security patches that may have been added in the eleventh hour. The Android Security Bulletin covers the list of vulnerabilities addressed with this set of updates, and for the first time it includes two separate lists: one dated July 1st and the other dated July 5th.

You know what's better than a Nexus phone? A cheap new Nexus phone. This is what we're here to talk about today. You should be familiar with the Nexus 5X by now. It's the lower-end of the two Nexus phones that were announced last year, but it's still quite a capable device. At launch, the 16GB version was priced at $379, but it has since fallen to $349 and we frequently see price drops here and there. However, it has very rarely gone as low as $229.

But today it is, at least on B&H. The seller is offering the new, unlocked, US variant of the phone for $229.95 as part of its DealZone deals.

I do, in fact, because this is a blog, and blog posts should have words, and I am going to put some here. The 32GB Nexus 5X is on sale for $274.99, which while not technically the cheapest we've ever seen it, it's damn close, and definitely the cheapest we've seen the North American H790 model without requiring a simultaneous Project Fi signup (where it costs $250). We've spotted the 32GB H791 international version for $249.99 previously, but that phone lacks T-Mobile band 12 support.

This is the proper 'Murican handset with full T-Mobile - and thus, Project Fi - Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T support, AKA the one you want if you're living stateside.

I never thought there would be a day when I'd know this much about US carriers and MVNOs, but this is what happens when you work on a US-based site like Android Police. Republic Wireless though comes a lot less often on our radar, and I just discovered why. Until now, the MVNO only had a couple of devices to choose from. Literally, a couple: the Motorola Moto G (3rd Gen) and Moto E (2nd Gen). It also seems to be ahead of its times, relying on Wi-Fi calling and piggy-backing on Sprint's network when Wi-Fi isn't available.

But things are about to improve by a few leaps and bounds for Republic Wireless.
