[Weekend Poll] Nexus 5, White Or Black?

[Weekend Poll] Nexus 5, White Or Black?

Another poll about colors? Yep. Our own Liam Spradlin mocked up what a white Nexus 5 might look like after some pretty likely bogus images of such a device appeared on the web late last week. Here's a more realistic representation of what each will probably look like.

White phones do tend to get a bit dingy and yellowed / grayed over time, but there's something about the N5 whited-out that really appeals to me.

[Rumor Smash] This Is Absolutely Not An All-White Nexus 5

[Rumor Smash] This Is Absolutely Not An All-White Nexus 5

On the evening of the 18th, Chinese tech site CtechCN began the circulation of an image representing an all-white variant of the Nexus 5, with the accompanying story that, according to a tipster, the white variant could be launched simultaneously with the black version, and presumably the version we've already seen with a white back and black front.

Tantalizing, right? The first issue with this image is the lighting. The highlights are all toward the bottom.

[Update 2: No News At Event] Google Begins Sending Out Invites To October 24th Google Play Event

[Update 2: No News At Event] Google Begins Sending Out Invites To October 24th Google Play Event

Update 2: We've now received independent confirmation from a credible source that there will be no news, Android or otherwise, at this event. Sorry, everyone - continue your Nexus reveal date conspiracy theorizing as normal.

Update: Geek.com has updated its story with a statement from a "reliable source," and that source is playing down any hopes of a Nexus reveal next week:

We just received a tip from a reliable source telling us that the 10/24 event will not feature any hardware.

Possible Nexus 5 Retail Packaging Leaked, New White Variant Revealed

Possible Nexus 5 Retail Packaging Leaked, New White Variant Revealed

This is the point in Google's product cycle where the leaks start falling like rain. Earlier today a Korean site named UnderKG (in case you couldn't tell through the obnoxious watermarks and bloom) posted photos of what appears to be the retail packaging of the LG Nexus 5. The boxes depart a little from the design of the previous Nexus devices, but still follow the basic pattern.

What's more interesting is that the device itself seems to be a white variant that we haven't seen before.

This Is The Nexus 5, In Full-Size Official Press Photo Glory

Well, here it is, official and direct from Google's own image server (here's a link, though it may go down). Feast your eyes.

We found this minutes after a link to the Play Store listing for the Nexus 5 inadvertently appeared on a Play Store device splash. We see a new camera icon, a new phone icon (as suspected), and if you look closely, a new Gmail icon, too. Neat.

Nexus 5 (Partially) Visible In The Play Store Ahead Of Release Starting At $349

After many many leaks, we've got an official look at the Nexus 5 via the Play Store - the Nexus collection for the US is showing the icon for the Nexus 5 listing, along with the official description copy. Unfortunately though, the phone's actual listing is inaccessible.

So far we can tell that the device will start at $349 for the 16GB model specified in the listing's URL. This means the 32GB version we saw in the leaked manual will likely cost at or above $400.

Breaking: Nexus 5 Prototype Bares All In Leaked Crystal Clear 7-Minute HD Video

A crystal clear 7-minute video of the Nexus 5 (I think we can accept that's going to be the name at this point) was just leaked on the web. It's an older build than the one leaked by TuttoAndroid yesterday, but look - it's the Nexus 5 hardware in the clearest shots we've seen yet! smartphones.sfr.fr appears all over it, so the full credit for this leak goes out to them.

New Nexus 5 KitKat Leak Shows Transparent Nav And Status Bars, New App Drawer And Wallpaper, Possible Always-On Listening Mode

A batch of images purporting to be from Android 4.4 running on a Nexus 5 have shown up online, and they confirm a lot of things we've been hearing. This isn't a complete rethinking of Android, but it looks like many parts of the UI will be tweaked this time around.

Starting with the lock screen, we can see a transparent status bar up top with white icons, now a staple of KitKat leaks.

An Oppo Smartphone Will Be The First To Ship With DigitalOptics' MEMS Camera, Not The Nexus 5

An Oppo Smartphone Will Be The First To Ship With DigitalOptics' MEMS Camera, Not The Nexus 5

A rumor started circulating last week claiming that the Nexus 5 could potentially revolutionize smartphone photography (again) by being the first to ship with a MEMS camera, introducing ultra fast autofocus speeds and post-shot refocusing. As it turns out, Oppo will ship the first smartphone with DigitalOptics' MEMS camera. On top of that, Oppo will be an exclusive launch partner. DigitalOptics' press release explicitly puts an end to the rumor that the Nexus 5 will ship with one of their camera modules.
