If you subscribe to several publications or just do your best to keep up with the news, you may rely on an article-saving app. Options like Pocket and Instapaper allow you to store articles for later reading, even when you’re offline. However, developers don’t always refine these apps for different operating systems. This has been the case with Instapaper, which rolled out version 5.0 for iOS years ago, while Android has remained on v4.x since 2014. Now, an updated version of the app is finally making its way to greener pastures.

Google News lets you read the latest news on a single app so that you stay on top of global current affairs. Its Material You makeover improves the Google News Android app experience, making it easier to read short articles on the go. The news aggregator app isn't perfect. It had an issue with news indexing that disrupted traffic to content publishers and reduced visibility in July 2023. Google announced on July 14 that it had resolved the issue.

Twitter is working on a subscription service, hoping to get people hooked with incentives such as an Undo Send button. In its latest attempt to spice up this service Twitter acquired Scroll, which lets readers support their favorite publishers (including us) while blocking ads. This development also sunsets a personalized daily news service called Nuzzel, which is owned by Scroll.

Flipboard was one of the first AI-supported news aggregators, and it's still the first choice for many people. The company only recently tried to insert itself into the conversation by launching a paid video service with partners like Variety, Bloomberg, and The Wall Street Journal, and now it's back with something many people have actually been asking for: A dark mode.
